Clarkson Sacked
Re: Clarkson Sacked
Whoa, that banner change is some proper Stalinist-era revisionism. Reminds me of 1984 where they suddenly change their enemy from Eurasia to Eastasia.
Re: Clarkson Sacked
So now May, Hammond and Wilman have quit Top Gear.
Sounds like there's something going on!

Re: Clarkson Sacked
i think they all have clauses in their contracts that prevent them from going to/starting a rival show within one year of the end of their contract
Re: Clarkson Sacked
you can't fund episodes of faux Top Gear with Youtube ad revenueMemphis wrote:Really tho, if the three went patron-funded youtubing, they'll probably still rake-it-in somewhat.
Re: Clarkson Sacked
The amount of money required to create a season of Top Gear episodes is not crowdfundable.
Re: Clarkson Sacked
4.5mil for 9 episodes at 500k each ?
Less than a handful have grossed more but considering the following that TG has then it has a good a chance as any I spose

Re: Clarkson Sacked
Pretty good choice given his love of cars, still think Top Gear is a poison chalice now though. I'd really like to see Guy Martin on there, if only for the subtitling for international audiences

There is an article on why he changed his mind

Nothing against Chris Evans but I won't be watching it

Re: Clarkson Sacked
they should have gone with Jodie Kidd. Chris Evans is a fucking bell
I mean, they can't reproduce the three-shambolic-middle-aged-men dynamic, so why not try something totally different?

Re: Clarkson Sacked
Evans has said there will be a female presenter so there's still chance. I'm thinking Vicky Butler-Henderson will get it though.
Re: Clarkson Sacked
Gross... who the fuck cares? I don't care about some shit and his white Ferraris. To me it sounds like they're choosing hosts based on a demographic rather than their chemistry as a group. I guarenfuckentee the third host will be black.

Re: Clarkson Sacked
Idris Elba would be a cracking choice to be fair
Re: Clarkson Sacked
Top Gear is too big to fail, so this will likely be excellent. They won't try to replace Clarkson, they're just going to completely revamp the whole show.
Calling it now, but no more Stig, no more test track, every episode effectively a special, featuring car reviews as part of the task, and maybe SIARPC being replaced by the star actually taking part in a bit of the filming of the test or the special, with a James Cordon Car Karaoke style interview.
Oh, this is all based on the premise that the BBC are hopeless, and largely inept at creating original content, so I've cherry-picked the best things from several currently-popular TV shows.

How can they choose based on Chemistry? Are you saying they should create random groups of people and then throw money at the team who get on the best during the test?Κracus wrote:Gross... who the fuck cares? So was FIFA.syp0s wrote:Top Gear is too big to fail
When the jig is up things can collapse pretty fucking rapidly, i'd be very surprised indeed if the next version is anywhere near as succesful as the previous one.

You've proved my point. FIFA hasn't failed, a guy just lost his job. Exact same thing. FIFA is a perfect example of something too big to fail, which is why it won't.Ryoki wrote:

I'm not saying it'll be as big as old Top Gear, I'm saying it'll likely be excellent. Breaking Bad isn't as big as Top Gear, but it's an excellent show.
