I made reference to Kool-Aid consumption due to Gramps' remark about being safer in a large vehicle. This is the fallacious line of thinking that the unwashed masses tout as the main reason for purchasing their land barges.

Why would you ever want to put a child in a vehicle like the H3 that moves at highway speeds?

That's a bit shortsighted. Many well educated parents spend 40 hours a week at the office, are covered in work through the weekends and can barely even remember their children's names because work is their #1 priority in life. Yeah, that's a good and sensible way to raise children.

Well, I get what Grudge is saying but I don't think it's all down to intelligence levels or something like that. It's just that these days people are as irresponsible as fuck. Taking responsibility and learning your children what responsibility is, is key.

Children who have educated parents are much more likely to themselves go on to higher education. Look it up.

Socioeconomical situation is much more of a deciding factor to the successful development of a child than time spent at home by the parents (unemployed, poor people who spend all their time sitting at home do not raise more successful children than hardworking academics). And higher education has a great impact on your socioeconomical status.

I'm talking statistically though. Of course taking responsibility is of great importance too.

completely baseless argument. Every single person I know buys foreign, and feels good about it. Why? Becuase Toyota and Honda aren't necessrily that foreign anymore. They are certainly as much (or more) an American Job-fueler as Chrystler or Ford.

Perhaps you live in a more open-minded section of society, but I am sure there are enough people who are patriotic/retarded enough to disregard imports and buy only American.

2 things that suprised me

1 my Dad works for Kodak, while all American and European brands were acceptable, no employees are allowed to choose a Japanese car, as a company car - no reasons are given, just a polite "get fucked, no Japanese cars"

2 I was talking to someone an American Jew about cars, he was weighing up getting a Lexus vs an American car, and when I suggested BMW, he told me that he will never buy anything German because of the holocaust. that was a viewpoint I never thought of, and if I were Jewish, I might feel exactly the same.

well that's an interesting point... I guess I find the "always buy American" argument baseless since, before or around 1977, Auto makers such as Honda started manufacturing cars in the US, employing tens of thousands of good old boys and gals.
I'd be interested to hear how much more American you can get than that? Are materials shipped in to Marysville Ohio from overseas to build the cars with? I would be surprised if the answer is yes?

Indeed. Or the fact that many foreign manufacturers are under control of the Big 3, anyway. So even if your car isn't actually made by hard-working blue collar americans pouring steel and dancing to C+C Music Factory, the money is still going to the same parent company.

There are several tier 1 suppliers to Honda in Ohio. They manufacture various parts, doors, seats, roofs, transmissions, etc. and then ship them to Marysville. Many of the raw materials are also domestic.

Trivia: if your company causes Honda's line to stop, they bill you for $800k/hour. This was back around '99, it is probably even more now.

Why should they? How many Hummer owners have actually driven it off-road? I'd guess the percentage is in the single digits.
