Don't worry.
Just pray that everything will be ok and it will be...because we all know praying works.

Re: Oh look, voting fraud
wtf is up with this bizarre feature of american voting where you have to register a party affiliation? why can't people just turn up at the polling station on their card and have their name ticked off the register, like in the UK? much simpler
speaking of voting, i have no idea who i'm going for in 2009. they all suck so very very badly
edit: on reflection, that idiot brown will probably try to eke out the full term and it'll be 2010 before we can elect the *other* bunch of wretched faggots

Are you kidding? I'm fucking furious about it! But, it's just one more thing that I've been angry over for the last 7 years and there's NOTHING that can be done about it.Ryoki wrote:Ok, that freaked me out.

Re: Oh look, voting fraud
lol but really I think that no matter your background/ location etc. there is the same potential of moron in the general public... bet if you replace the US population with another countries population you'll have the same outcome sooner or later. This is a melting pot and as you can see american born citizens of a diff. background evolve into moron as they are subjected to the same system./lifestyle...with the exception of the ones who are not idiots by nature and the ones that have a strong affiliation with a outside religious group which greatly affects ones lifestyle.seremtan wrote:time to bomb texas...increase the global mean IQ by 50 points

My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. I know that sounds really pessimistic, but so much about the way this country, and the world in general, is going has me thinking that now, more than ever before, we are really on the precipice of some really bad shit coming our way. Does anyone with kids worry much about what they may have to face or is it just me?Nightshade wrote:Are you kidding? I'm fucking furious about it! Just look at it this way...if you personally think that you have what it takes to raise a sensible human being, then it's pretty much your duty to do so. Every generation has to deal with their ancestor's actions and having more morons rather than sensible ones is only going to make things worse.

Somewhat, but my concerns have more to do with the uncertain prospect of nanotechnology and machine intelligence.tnf wrote:My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. With freedom of movement and control of one's assets, voting with your feet might have the greatest effect on institutional malaise and corruption.

This is is the biggest cop-out for having children.tnf wrote: My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. By making such a comment means you're not ready to have children.
Don't do it.
Re: Oh look, voting fraud
Yea a big cop out. You know fuckall about the actual decision or the thoughts and considerations that have gone into it. We both want kids. And I'm sure we'll have them. But that won't change the fact that I'll still be concerned about the world they are coming into. My point is that the world is, in the opinion of many, it a state of fuckup that it hasn't seen in some time - and a place where some real tough realities may set in if things don't change real quick - and it maybe to late to fix anything in some situations. I hope that things end up better than predicted. That being the case, one can't help but worry a bit about what their own kids will have to face, regardless of how much optimism you have in the future or their ability to fix it. I guess I just need more faith in God to keep everything in order.YourGrandpa wrote:This is is the biggest cop-out for having children.tnf wrote: My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. Gramps knows though. I'll take that advice to heart.

People were voicing the same concerns in the 60's and 70's over the cold war.tnf wrote: My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. The exact same concerns!
IMO go about your business and have kids if you want'em.

October 1962 notwithstanding, the situation we're facing is FAR worse, and much more likely.Dukester wrote:People were voicing the same concerns in the 60's and 70's over the cold war.tnf wrote: My wife's sister has a baby, my brother and his wife had one last November...everyone is putting pressure on me and the wife to have kids, but honestly one of the things keeping her on the birth control is the fact that I'm not sure I want to bring a kid into the world to face the things they may have to. Re: Oh look, voting fraud
I can understand the implications, but still, do you want to be sitting around as a retired 70's something couple thinking you wished you'd had a child?
Your offspring might be the one with all the answers who eventually solves all the world problems, you never know!
I don't have kids so I can't relate, but you shouldn't go hide in the closet it seems.

Quite often. Especially with another one due in 3 weeks or so.tnf wrote:Does anyone with kids worry much about what they may have to face or is it just me?
I'm going to try to document my Irish citizenship by summertime, so I've got a place to take my family if martial law breaks out Bush declares himself king for "continuation of government" after another "terrorist attack" on our soil. I need my mom's birth certificate, her marriage license, and my birth certificate. I don't know if she'll be willing to give those documents up or not, however.
