So yeah, increased unrest in the east of the Ukraine now. I read that pro-Russian activists have occupied a government building in Donetsk and declared Donetsk a sovereign republic. They've asked Russia for military support. People suspect these activists are actually organized by the Russians themselves.

Each dot depicts the location where a U.S. survey respondent situated Ukraine; the dots are colored based on how far removed they are from the actual country, with the most accurate responses in red and the least accurate ones in blue.

...

We found that only one out of six Americans can find Ukraine on a map, and that this lack of knowledge is related to preferences: The farther their guesses were from Ukraine’s actual location, the more they wanted the U.S. to intervene with military force.

Ok, all the blips in eastern Europe, I can understand (ask the average European to point at Mississippi and you'll probably get a large amount of not entirely correct answers), but like MKJ said, those pointing at the wrong continent are just incredibly stupid people.

So what this is then, is a test that we should run on Americans to determine whether or not they should be allowed to breed.

that's quite amusing, but being able to locate a country on a map doesn't actually correlate with having a geopolitical understanding greater than fuck all

also, lol @ antarctica in the bottom right

But I would say knowing the geographical location of a country is a requirement for having any sensible political knowledge about the region.

If pointing at your country to this question is retarded then what's pointing to the sea ?

A statistical anomaly. Possibly someone who didn't know and just for the fuck of it pointed at the sea to get a chuckle out of it. At least, that's what I hope, but it wouldn't be the first time I grossly overestimated mankind's intellect.

Depends on where you're from I guess. But my meaning is clear I hope. If not, replace the country/state with major cities.

Putin is at it again. Sending troops into Ukraine and flying bombers over the Gulf of Mexico. What's this guy trying to prove?

From what I've read Russia isn't technically sending troops to Ukraine since the Donetsk region is supposedly not Ukrainian at the moment. At least according to the Russians. So they're actually sending troops to the new republic of Donetsk or whatever they're calling themselves now.

Bombers over the gulf is new, haven't heard about that but I did hear they were sending 4 warships off the coast of Australia.

From what I gather I guess the world leader meetings going on in Australia aren't going so well for Putin so he's trying to intimidate other nations.... or something.

Ultimately he's just looking like another North Korea. A lot of bark and no bite.
