He had Tim Robbins on the other night, his first question was:"What's it like to work with Clint Eastwood, and why do you hate our troops?"

Colbert is a genius.

I think we've seen enough Colbert episodes to conclude that he just doesn't produce enough material for a 5 show a week cycle. He strains his caricature of right-wing pundits at times and interrupts his guests far too often for rapidly diminishing comedic returns. It's no longer witty, if it ever was, and all he has to hold his audience's attention is the massive ego of the character he plays. You can only ride the charisma train for so long though, I predict a shitcanning at some point if he doesn't shape up.

Him shaping up is not the problem. The theme of the show is very topical and is aging very quickly. I was just watching it tonight and it felt like I was watching a rerun from the 80's. Everything from the eagle to the American flag to the O'Reilly attitude felt stale. There wasn't much I was laughing at.
Colbert is a great comedian so I hope he exits gracefully before it becomes painfully obvious that it's time to move on.

His material may have become stale, but it's no imagined observation that he lacks material on a day to day basis. Even if his character has a limited lifespan, what lifespan it has is shortened by his increasingly ineffective execution and the addressable shortcomings of his show.

Yeah, his non-interview material is very uneven now.

An hour once a week with 2 interviews/guests might work.
I personally loved the animated stuff -- it added a community input aspect that you don't see much on tv these days.

I didn't think the show would work for a long time as a daily deal...

I love his schtick....but I don't watch the show...just clips I find on da web....so I guess for me the show is perfect.
But hey....the election is over, alot of people now see the Republicans for what they are and have turned a blind ear to their message...which is exactly what Colbert was bashing. If you ask me, his job is done...and he's done more for America in the last year than most politicians in their careers. I think he opened a few eyes....not alot....but enough to be talked about around the globe for a while and perhaps turn a few undecideds AGAINST the Right. But that's just speculation.
Besides...we all know as soon as O'Reilly and Hannity retire he'll have no more material to "get inspiration" from.
