lol @ TB
If a dual core Intel is slower than a single core Athlon 64 in games, dual cores are a failure. :olo:

Few games make use of dual cores, and for the money you are slightly better off going single core for games right now. But in time that will change. Either way though, a dual core at the same speed (and same architecture) as a single core is a better CPU.

What do you guys know about pressing the F5 key before you press F6 when installing XP?

I was told by a friend to do this and select APCI Multiprocessor because I have the dual core opteron 175.

Was that the right thing to do?

Fuck me.....

I think my 250 gig is dead and possibly one of my 120 gigs is dying.

Anyone know of a way to recover info from a dead drive. The bitch just sit there and clicks.

Anyone have an answer for this?

If I lose this drive it'll really suck. The thing is full of pictures and backed up info compiled over several.

Please help.

Thanks.

Scheduled backups are really worthwhile :icon32:

I know, I know....

I usually buy a new H/D every couple of years when I do an upgrade and transfer the info then. But this drive was barely a year old.

I think my one of my 120 gigs is going too.

Fuck this sucks.

Two drives at once? This is odd. I know the 250 gig is dying, almost dead. I'm working on recovering my info now. I'm using the share ware version of GetDataBack and it seems to be working. That Spinrite just seemed to hang up on any little error and didn't have any settings to skip bad sectors. But now my 120 gig is starting to tick every once and awhile. It's part of a RAID stripe and on boot up of windows the system will sometimes hang or give boot errors.

I'm wondering if this could be a power issue. Could lack of power from the PSU damage a drive? Could a dying PSU cause drives to malfuction on boot and make a ticking sound?

It's just rather odd that two drives would be dying at once, while three other hard drives remain fine.

Anyway, I ordered (2) 74 gig 10,000 RPM SATA Raptors and a WD 250 gig 7200 RPM SATA II 16mb to fix this mess. Since the two maxtors are still under warranty I'll send them out for repair and sell them when I get them back. :tear:

I've got a 550watt Antec True power PSU that's a couple of years old and it's running the following.

(2) PCIE 6800 256 Ultras
(1) PCI ATI 7000 64
(1) DVDRW
(1) CDRW
(2) 80 gig HD
(2) 120 gig HD
(1) 250 gig HD
Opteron 175
ASUS A8N32 Deluxe

USB
Printer, Razer Copperhead mouse, ZBoard, Nostromos game pad and Joystick

(3) Cold cathode fan lights

I know that's a lot of shit, but it's been running fine for over 6 months. Though I'm almost positive that the problems I was having for about a week before I changed my mobo and CPU was caused by a hard drive(s).

dude, wtf do you need almost 400gb's for on 1 pc, especially your main computer? why not set up a server w/raid whatever with all your extra parts to backup to?

but still, 400GB's? i can't think of anything legal you would need to store locally that you couldn't burn to disc...

edit: wait, 630GB???

whatever....
