It follows a recent announcement by Marvel's rivals DC Comics that Batwoman is to return as a crime-fighting lesbian.
It is obvious, that this was done merely to counter what DC has done, given the fact DC has been all over the media after that bit of info was released. Now, Marvel had to come up with something to get their publicity. I don't think this is good for the storyline. Spider-Man's true identity is supposed to be a secret. The Spider-Man I grew up with would do anything to keep his identity from being revealed. This is unjust...

Yeah, the whole idea of Spiderman was that he had an internal struggle between being the hero and saving the lives of strangers at the risk of putting his life and those he loved in danger. Not to mention to hide from all the people who still considered him a freak and considered him a menace.
Now he goes off and reveals his identity so some thug can go kidnap M.J. in retaliation for putting him behind bars.
Good job Marvel. That makes sense.
Like I said, they'll just do another universe reboot.

Joe Quesade, the EIC of Marvel has stated that he HATES the fact that Spider-Man is married. This is likely his first step in either divorcing or killing off MJ.
Having said that, Spider-Man has changed a lot in the past year. He's no longer a loner, he's a member of the Avengers, and he died and was reborn with crazy new powers, not to mention the new suit.
I think it's bold of Marvel to take this step. They aren't countering anything DC has done. DC may have had a giant event but it has had almost 0 consequence. Marvel is the only one taking risks with it's characters. I approve.

I think Marvel deciding to make so many changes to Spider-Man is disrespectful to Stan Lee, who wrote it originally. I guess some things gotta change eventually...

They still make Spider Man comics? Jesus fucking christ. That's the problem with American comics. Their creators have no concept of actual plot. Spoilers: plots have endingss(timely ones)! I've never understood why people think it's a good idea to keep making the same series for decades. I'll never buy into that marvel/dc shit

That doesn't even almost make sense.

So is Spiderman still pretty much the old Spiderman or does he have a blog and a myspace page and an ipod now?

No doubt. I've heard criticism of the new Superman movie because the movie supposedly doesn't stress the fact enough that superman is the mightiest superhero.

I think I rather agree. Superman really has it all, he's invincible, has laser eyes, x-ray vision, super-strong AND can fly.
Who else comes even close?

superman has to be the most uninspired hero ever
theres nothing that can hurt him, save one particluar element. (and for some reason, everyone has it)
its :icon32: cause the cartoonists once complained that they couldnt make it exciting anymore; after superman stopped a planet from colliding with the earth

so now theres a convention of what he can and cant do

Actually, the Super-Man doesn't have a health meter in the new game. The health meter belongs to the city of Metropolis and the game ends when the city's health meter reaches zero (is destroyed).
There, you learned something.
