CPMA with the new 'promode off' settings is going to be as much Q3 as OSP is.

Why is the OSP site down?

It's been down for the better part of 2 years.

Not sure. Say, can you jump on MSN for a while? I'm having trouble with the PHP setup on that box.

osp is down because its no longer being developed.

Erm are you sure about that? From what I've seen of his posts about it, hes been very vocal for promode movement and very much against vq3 movement.

In all honestly it would be a better choice.
I'm sure people who's played OSP all their careers agree perfectly with you, say cooller or czm-
Who's to say they wouldn't? It's just been so long since any major community buzz about a good q3 tourney, and cpma/vq3 has evolved over time, why not go with something new? I dunno if it would be good to use the cpm maps, maybe a new batch of 1v1 maps from lvl?

Becuase pro players are stuck-up creatures. They'll want the maps they've always played, same config etc.. Stuff like not being able to not do certain jumps, like the tele jump @ t2.

Pro players, or wannabe pros? Real pros have always been pretty silent in keeping vocal with the community imo... it's the 10000s of wannabies at esr that always start the whining.

i miss not being able, at this point, to do that jump in cpma. it totally changes the dynamic of the map tho and probably breathes new life into the shaft-rape fest of a map.

Q3Tourney4 dropped out of favour for tournaments when id removed through-floor splash damage.
You're right though, it does change T2. But IMO it's always been a pretty dull map - Symmetrical ones never make good tourney levels.

this is a 5 year old log, so he may have changed his mind
[20:39] <[xeno]Julios> in quake2 (havn'et fully tested with q3 but i'm pretty sure same thing)
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> there is no fundamental differnece between the moveforward and backwards, compared to left and right strafe
[20:40] <arq-away> right
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> so if u were moving sideways
[20:40] <arq-away> that SO pisses me off in promode
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> moveforward would be effectively a strafe
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> which means u can be more creative
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> with your movement
[20:40] <arq-away> mak and i both pushed for orthogonal air control
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> YES
[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> exactyly
[20:40] <arq-away> read my column

[20:40] <[xeno]Julios> i don't know why that sounds good
[20:41] <arq-away> "if i ruled the world"
[20:41] <[xeno]Julios> but it's what i'm gettin at i think
[20:41] <[xeno]Julios> linkage!
[20:41] <arq-away> couple months back
[20:41] <[xeno]Julios> set me up with linkage
[20:41] <arq-away>

orthogonal movement allows some fantastic maneuvers in vq3, like the ability to do some very sweet drive by styles, where you can strafe jump sideways past enemy while facing them.

Heh Julz, if that is indeed true then it's very interesting.

I wonder what would force him to change his mind in the course of time. I really think he did develop some levels of apathy as time went by because of osp players. They always seem to pick apart the smallest nuances of cpma and that could be why he hates ospers in general.
I bet he stopped to lurk here a long time ago, but it would be interesting to see him make an appearance and comment on this.

He can't, because his accounts are all broken here. He's asked for them to be fixed several times and they haven't been. He's probably stopped caring by now.
Regarding him changing his mind, he probably hasn't, but as he says he takes gameplay changes seriously and doesn't just change things because it's what he thinks is best.

Btw mang would you like to get a few quick matches of cpma vq3 going? We don't have to use the cpm maps, just use authentic osp stuff to make it as close as possible to it. There is a nice nyc cpma vq3 server running that would be perfect. You seem to be the kind of guy that can appreciante the finest techical aspects of a good mod and I'm sure you would have some fine comments about it what with your honed acuity and all.

i'll give it a try - i just remember testing out the new netcode a while back, and hating the lg - it isn't as solid as osp's. But maybe it's been changed since...

Kewl, when do you wanna go at it? This weekend good? Think of a good time and we could hop on irc.
I've taken up more interest in 1v1 lately tbh, I'll play with anyone cpma/osp dosen't matter.

Lately it's been more difficult to find a sparrings partner anyway.
Prince didn't we only play together like once? Do you wanna play sometime?
