This is a car that has 2000hp and is street legal. They mention the Bugati in this clip. As far as stait line racing this car will beat the Bugati but I doubt it will reach the top speed of the Bugati. All of this HP in a Chevy motor. :)
not really that special... just go to any drag event at the strip and you'll see a bunch of those cars. In fact, the super chevy show was this weekend... last years was awesome!

still a sweet car though. dont get me wrong

Oh dear. I have been paying much attention to things lately. Are there any car companies that VW haven't purchased?

lately.....VW bought the Bugatti brand in 1998 ya ol' fart.

The Volkswagen group consists of VW, Seat, Audi, Skoda as far as I know.....there's also some cooperation with Porsche.

I'm pretty sure he says fifty minutes, not fifteen.

I knew about the VW/Audi/Porsche consortium, but not the others. I got sick of trying to follow the massive automotive inbreeding festival when everybody started buying everybody else, Ford/Lotus/Jaguar, Chrysler/Lamborghini/Daimler, etc., etc.

Porsche owns ~ 25% of VW

VW owns Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bugatti. Bentley

Audi owns Lamborghini

wrong

The Piech/Porsche family owns 1/2 of Porsche, the other half is on the stock market.

It's all controlled by this guy:

That is rather god damn fast. 10 radiators? :icon32: Fairly intense.

That track looks like it'd be fun to drive on hehe.

awesome video, i thought he was gonna crash it when he was coughing towards the end.
Also that note that f1 cars have no fancy stuff, no airbags (like thats gonna save you at 407km/h) etc and that the Veyron does and it can out perfor... The F1 can out manouver, out accelerate and around a track out perform the Veyron . when it takes a 16 piston, 4 turbod, 10 radiator, special key car to go as fast as an F1 can, when an F1 has 4 pistos, 2 turbos, and maybe 2 radiators...its got nothing on em.

despite all that, very nice production car...

How big do you think the car is? And no, he's not getting one.

the 355 in that photo is real... and its the first hit from google image search.
they're actually pretty affordable now-a-days. you can get a 96-ish 355 for ~$70K
however the one in the photo looks like a 99; which would cost closer to 100.

i think he was just saying that the veryron can go quicker in a straight line whilst still having the ability to go on the road (H&S standards and all that bullshit being added on) also taking into consideration that the f1 engine is changed after every 2 races

i dont think top gear ever said it would be quicker round a track than an F1 car

- anyone see last night episode ? fucking cracking

Yeah he didn't say it would go around a track faster.
An F1 car obviously has far superior handling and probably accelerates faster as well.

and that's only barely faster... 7km/h faster than a race prepared Honda F1 on michelin F1 track tires. (407.4 vs 400.459kph)

I think I remember hearing that the Veyron can accelerate faster than an F1 car, but that might just be off the line. I don't know if it applies to rolling starts.

And yeah, the components of the Veyron outlast F1 racing parts, which is a big part of why it's so impressive.

nah... the veyron takes about twice as long to hit 60mph.
IIRC the 3L V-10 F1 cars could do 0-100mph in ~4 seconds.
0-100-0 in ~6

i'd recon the new V8's are a bit slower on the up-take; due mostly to the 20K revs it takes to make it's power... but still most certainly faster than anything short of a drag car.
