Yeah, why the hell wouldn't you tell the dude to spill it to his gf and if he didn't you would. I wouldn't cionsider a liar my friend anyway.

Seems pretty obvious to me you should act in this situation, why choose to remain ignorant? It's not fun but there's nothing wrong with confronting someone with fucking up another persons life. His own life, that's his choice.

tnf, not for nothin', but in your situation I would have confronted the dude first and told him to smarten the fuck up and get checked out or you'd drop a dime.
sorry bulb-shady, but I've known the two for a long time, and know how the one would be devastated (and I mean emotionally ruined) by the other's stupidity. Can't be the one to break a person, even if I didn't consider them a close friend.

So you go to the person that's doing the cheating and confront them, as I said to tnf. You selfish weenie.

BTW, interventions don't always end with the 'friend' whose affairs you interfered in realising you did the right thing and being greatful. Once had to call a guys parents to come get him from university because he'd had a mental breakdown in his final year. We got his submission dates frozen for him and everything. Last I heard when he was last in town someone found out that he hates our guts and he thinks we deliberately sabotaged his final year.

So, eh, don't expect doing the right thing to make everyone love you. But you should still do it, cause it will (or at least should) haunt you worse if you do nothing.

Of course it is, the problem is placing the idiot filter on the acquisition process.

If it's a right, how are you going to deny some people their guns?

Also I don't agree that an idiot filter is all that would be needed. Guns are inherently dangerous things. ( I tried to show this in that other thread by posting about the state trooper who shot his partner). Even with extensive and proper training one can mess up big time with something so lethal.

The right to cars is not enshrined in their constitution. The right to bear arms is. This is the crux of why I've changed my opinion on this whole matter. Cars are not a right, they are a privilege.

People who commit crimes forfeit many of their rights, gun ownership being one of them. And I don't think that an idiot filter is all that's needed, either. It sure would help, though.

underpants, the best thing you could do would be to talk to your buddy (repeatedly if necessary), and convince him to either be honest with his girl or to stop the play on the side.

How serious is it though? Just seeing/talking to one another a lot? Making out but no sex (yet)?

Are they married, or just together?

I don't agree with NS et al on this one -- I'm not going to tell one of my longtime best friends "Hey, either you tell your wife you're cheating on her, or I'm going to tell her."

I'm just going to make sure my friend understands the full implications of what he's doing.

I've got a drama story myself involving a good friend of probably 15 years (you met him when we were out there pants). These are hard decisions to come to sometimes.

While I appreciate you wanting to preserve both friendships, I believe had I been in a similar situation I wouldn't hesitate as long as you did. I probably would have pulled the 'ol "If you don't tell her, I will," routine.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be ignorant to the whole situation too, but knowing what you knew, didn't you feel obligated to do something? It's an all-around shitty position to be in, no matter how you look at it. :(

So, were you able to preserve both friendships? Now you've got me all concerned. :p
No , I've been friends with her boyfriend for 24+ years.

I tried that approach with him and got nowhere. It wasn't about being selfish, it was about figuring out how to deal with this whole situation without blowing everything up into one big clusterfuck. In reality, I think my telling my wife about the situation was my way of making sure the girlfriend got the information she needed because there was no way she was going to sit on it very long. And I wasn't 'great' friends with the gf who was getting cheated on...but she was a nice person and I didn't want to see her end up getting really fucked over.

If I wasn't friends with the wife I would act differently. If I'm good friends with both then yeah, I'm going to jump in the dude's shit, and possibly slap the fuck out of him.

What about those who haven't committed a crime? Who else gets weeded out by the idiot filter?

Agreed. Weird that everyone here wouldn't do anything about this, why would you tolerate anyone who goes behind the back of a friend, even if it were a friend. That's like... not trying to break up a fight between friends?

I like going through life doing what feels right at the current moment. If I must face the consequences of a bad decision, then so be it. I will learn from it and move on. But I don't ponder situations too long, for they can become foggy with useless details.

Nightshade what do you suggest doing about unregistered guns? If we change the books on how difficult it is to get a gun we're still going to have a shitload of dirty guns in the streets. They're also quite easy to get in most places. I own a 12ga Remington for trap shooting that is registered to me. I'm only 18 so I can't buy handguns but I've been in numerous situations where I've been asked if I wanted a pistol. About a month ago I was at a party and a guy asked me if I wanted an extended clip Beretta for $350. I said no (i don't want or need a gun, and for the love of jesus not a dirty gun) but this really got me thinking. If someone's going to go batshit crazy and go on a good ole' fashion killing spree, they're not going to bring the 12ga shotgun when they have access to a harder-to-trace, concealable pistol.

I was actually shocked with how easy it was for me to buy a gun. I walked in and walked out with a shotgun and 24 hollow point slugs in about 30 minutes. I think there is something wrong with that.

ps. thread has been hijacked

There are plenty of laws on the books that address this sort of thing. Guns shows need the SHIT regulated out of them, that's one damn thing that needs to change.
The most important thing, and I've said this numerous times, is to start addressing the reasons why people shoot each other in the first place. I never cease to be amazed at people that decry the "war on drugs" for the idiocy that it is, knowing that as long as there's a demand there will be a supply yet can't extend the same logic to gun violence.
