Are you doing your currency conversions properly? I mean, 70k is pfg if you're young and single. But if you plan to buy a house, own a car or raise a family its nothing special at all.
70,000 US dollar is a little over 52,000 euros. The average income here in the Netherlands is roughly 34,000 euros.
I'm 29 years old and don't have a terrible income myself (well above average). I can save a bit of money at the end of each month. I own a house, own a car and have a child. But I can tell you that I don't make €52,000 a year.
If you feel that 52,000 euro (or 70,000 USD) is "nothing special", then I think you're pissing off about 80% of the US population pretty badly.
