apart from the bit where he panned the 47% for their supposed "dependency on government" (which, to be fair, was him alienating the people who were never going to vote for him anyway), the rest of it was pretty much an accurate statement of the truth. political parties DO have a core vote the other side can't get to. elections ARE decided by the minority of swing voters. ironically, it might be those "thoughtful" swing voters who end up sinking his campaign because of him saying all this out loud :olo:

Not like a redneck i don’t think, more like an unrepentant greedhead; the guy who fired your dad and outsourced his job to China in order to fatten up his foreign bank account which he has so he can avoid paying taxes. And who is someone who takes pride in that, seeing it as proof of his economic brilliance. He doesn't understand that a lot of people think it's disgusting and un-American. Fuck those people anyway, he seems to think, they won't vote for me so i'll just not take them into account.

I personally think anyone who desires high political office has a few quirky and possibly unhealthy things about their personality, but this guy manages to come across more like a high powered sociopath every day.

His campaign has done him no favors either, the Republicans lied so fast and so often and pandered to so many extremists the Democrats must be dizzy with trying to sort out the ammunition handed to them and figure out what they should attack him with first. They’ve really held back up to this point i think, the debates between the candidates should be top notch entertainment

I'm glad the republican party has been going down in flames for over the past decade, and gravity is not easing up any time soon.

Hopefully, this will force its evolution to a party a little more connected to reality. The hard core morons of this country won't like it, but they are not doing themselves any favors by appealing to that demographic much longer.

I agree.
Think this "fuck up" is the best thing for the Romney campaign so far.
If anything, this will *win* him votes, not lose them.

I agree with Plan B.

This would the perfect time to take a jab at Romney by pointing out he doesn't pay federal taxes.

I like the part where Romney discusses his economic plan:

"We'll see capital come back and we'll see—without actually doing anything—we'll actually get a boost in the economy"

Why didn't the Democrats think of that? So simple!

Just realized you only posted part of this video, other clips here:

I was referring to the bit in the 5th clip.

It doesn't surprise me, but do you have a link for the part where he thinks teachers need to be paid less?

It also doesn't surprise me he thinks this way. I'm sure he never set foot in a public school during his education. His children never will either. Teachers don't do anything directly for people like him (you know, other than educate all the people he lays off). A selfish prick like him doesn't value them.

I dunno, but 70K is quite a hefty salary. Teachers here don't get that sort of money either, no way. Not saying teachers aren't grossly underpayed, but 70K a year is almost twice the average Dutch income.

The thing is, they don't get 70K. California is amongst the highest in the US, with the median income for teachers about 55K (some states are in the 35K range).

There was a politician recently who really shot himself in the foot saying teachers should be paid less, in order to deter people from entering the field who aren't passionate about it, or something to that effect.

In either case, the point is they aren't valued. The pay is a reason lots of potentially excellent teachers avoid the field. All kinds of programs (arts mainly) are constantly being cut. Teachers being laid off. Students test scores are constantly dropping. I'm pretty sure the US is behind almost all of western Europe at this point.

Still, why shouldn't they make that kind of money? There are few professions that have such an impact on a country's future. Investment in education isn't going to lead to short term gains, but it's going to bring a much more capable workforce down the line.

For any politician to come out and express a belief that teachers deserve less than they currently get, or even just small increases in potential salary is baffling to me. It shows they aren't working towards anything, and are just about the bottom line regardless of the mess that causes in the future.

That's why I wanted a link to Romney saying this. I must have missed it because I'm pretty sure I would remember that.
