Tried to get 8 meg here with UK Online but it aint having any of it >:E
I went on the UK online site, entered my details and it says I can get an 8mb connection, even though other providers say I cant in my area, what's the story, you having the same probs too? (Their prices seem pretty ace)

Edit: On closer inspection they're exactly what I dont need, they block ports 21, 25, 80 and 8080, which is a bitch.

This is what they're offering:

No 12 month contract, leave when you want.
Uncapped,
£1 setup fee and free modem.
First month free, 2nd month 1/2 price.
20mb freespace and an extra 50Mb for an extra £1 a month.
Have to transfer BT line to bulldog, but same line rental, and same call charges.

What do you guys think, shall I do it? I'm paying virgin net £24.99 for 1Mbit, and virgin said they'll try and upgrade me to 2Mbit. But 8Mbit for only £5 more? And I think some people on here said bulldog is good.
Do it

Seemingly they're great if you dont want to do any kind of hosting, they block ports 21, 25, 80 and 8080. Their 8mb service uses LLU which means they dont use BT wholesale lines (they use EasyNet), so you can get 8mb even if you arent in London, which is pretty damn excellent. They cap at 500GB/mo. which is very reasnoble for the price, and their 8mb service has 400kb/s upload which would be excellent for game server hosting.

Fucking shame they block those ports though :tear:

Nah, I'm not going with bulldog now for 2 reasons. One, and mostly, because they've got a bad reputation for service. Two, because I might struggle for stability even beyond this 1Mbit conn anyway.

Also, I'm using this DSU meter, and I've only downloaded 2.7GB since 15th may, so the 20GB cap is more than enough for me. Don't really need to change ISP's anymore.

UK Online have a shitty reputation too. Personally I think it's better playing the waiting game since BT will be rolling out 8mbit home lines from November and I think those that go for x deal because it's faster and cheaper are just kidding themselves as the way BT are setting up the broadband market is to favour BT and no-one else. I'd rather pay a little more for a truly uncapped service than save a fiver and be limited to 30gb (or whatever) a month with a £1+ charge for every Gb over that limit since in effect that's just pushing us back to the dark days of 56k rather than unlimited broadband, tho the days of unlimited broadband, because of BT, are numbered.
