Bulldog 8Mbit for £29.99, uncapped
Bulldog 8Mbit for £29.99, uncapped
Just chatted with a bulldog salesman on the phone.
This is what they're offering:
No 12 month contract, leave when you want.
Uncapped,
£1 setup fee and free modem.
First month free, 2nd month 1/2 price.
20mb freespace and an extra 50Mb for an extra £1 a month.
Have to transfer BT line to bulldog, but same line rental, and same call charges.
What do you guys think, shall I do it? I'm paying virgin net £24.99 for 1Mbit, and virgin said they'll try and upgrade me to 2Mbit. But 8Mbit for only £5 more? And I think some people on here said bulldog is good.

have a look at ispreview/adslguide and places like that - usually give a pretty up to date picture.

Yeah, those sites are giving mostly bad reviews of bulldog. One person said bulldogs service is a shower of shit
I really dunno. Always hard to believe what you read, as every isp is getting some bad press on messageboards. Even pipex.

Think I should go fr it?

Cool. I think I'm gonna do it then, considering it's practically free for the first 2 months with no binding contract. BT said transferring the phone service to bulldog and back again if need be won't be a problem.

edit: correction, BT now said it can very problematic transferring back, and that many bulldog customers wanted to go back to BT. Fuck knows, maybe she was just trying to put me off for the sake of it.

Sounds good, but even at work with unlimited bandwidth I only occasionally get d/l speeds above 4Mbps. The extra 4Mbps you'd get on top would be useful for Windows update and a few other things that are fast at the other end but mostly it'll be unused.DRuM wrote:Just chatted with a bulldog salesman on the phone.

Having said that, £30 for 8Mbps - why the fuck are you even asking? Just do it.
Re: Bulldog 8Mbit for £29.99, uncapped
Well, tbh, I actually cannot find a good review about bulldog. Everyone is slagging them off wherever I look. I really would love 8Mbit, ( even though my line apparently can only take 6Mbit)as that would mean 500Mb movies downloaded in a matter of minutes.seremtan wrote:Sounds good, but even at work with unlimited bandwidth I only occasionally get d/l speeds above 4Mbps. I'm holding up till I can maybe get some favourable reviews about them. Also, I might be without internet for about 2 weeks during migration, and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to migrate.
Meanwhile, anyone heard of freedom2surf? They're getting rave reviews, and beat even nildram and pipex in comparision. It's harder to find bad reviews on them. Only 2MBit at the moment, but they're taking pre orders for 8Mbit.

haven't heard anything bad about them as an isp - had 3 sites hosted with them for the last few years and never had any complaints with that either.DRuM wrote:Meanwhile, anyone heard of freedom2surf? Yep, they do sound very good.
Anyone know about line attenuation, and, SNR on telephone lines, (signal to noise ratio) ? My SNR is 9.3 dB which is apparently low and not very good. Unless I can improve it, I'm told that even a 2Mbit connection could be unstable. I was advised to take the telephone socket faceplate off and plug my adsl filter into a test socket which is apparently behind it. That may improve it.
Also, my line attenuation is 50.6dB downstream, and apparently BT set a limit of 43dB for 2Mbit, so in theory, I might not get 2Mbit, let alone 8Mbit.
