All the hype and 10/10 reviews makes me vary of this game, especially since GTA 3 was such a dull snorefest. It's clearly a game for the masses, sort of like a RPG-light (quests and open world, but no character development) for the mainstream. Plus, I get the impression that the criminal setting is a large part of the appeal (wow, you can kill hookers, steal police cars and generally behave however you want in a reasonably close-to-reality world), which is appealing if you are 15 I guess, but I don't really get why all the reviewers are raving so much about it.

Then I don't really see the appeal of many of the other large mainstream games like WoW, Counterstrike and Starcraft either so maybe mainstream simply isn't for me.

But, I haven't played it yet so maybe I shouldn't judge it based on the hype. You can get back to me when it's out for PC.

Grudge, why do you think there is no character development? GTA 3 might have been lacking, but Vice City certainly was not, and GTA 4 goes even further.

Sounds like you're not a gamer. And as it stands now, no one will be getting back to you :(

i do. runs smooth as butter. even played online and the experience was seemless.

you could honestly go either way as from what i've been reading over the past few days no one version is superior to the other. the ONLY thing that the 360 version has a true advantage over the PS3 is the DLC which is still completely unkown as to what it will be and if it's just a timed exclusive or not.

you won't miss anything or have a lesser experience on the PS3 if you don't have or choose not to go the 360 route--unless of course you have a boner for DLC.

i agree with gta3 being a bit too linear. vice city though had some awesome subplots and sidestorylines that you could only get if you were being a real druglord. get enough cash, buy out a filmstudio on the brink of chapter 11 and turn it into the next Vivid. then do something similar with a hotel. or nightclub. etc.

fun stuff. i missed that in SA, i hope its back in 4

SA's story was a load of wank. Tough [LOL RACISM] tryin' to find his groove in Chocolate City. Even though there was a shitload to do, the game seemed flat. It didn't have the immersion and atmosphere that VC had.

yes the game definitely is inferior to crackdown as far as shooting goes.

You shot out our fucking tire and it made it a bitch to chase you, despite you not knowing WTF to go.

And I officially suck at shooting in this game. :p

i really didn't like crackdown because I thought the game could have been so much better if your characters could do a bit more acrobatically than jump and throw stuff.

And the missions were just random 'go kill a group of people' and come back. Lots of sandbox games have missions like that, but these ones just didn't appeal to me.

I enjoyed Vice City, what little I played it, but the shooting/aiming sucked ass. I'm sure I'll rent GTA4, I just remembered reading an article about some of the different game modes. Jury's out on whether or not I'll buy it.

SHooting is much better now.

I just earned the one man army achievement and didn't even mean to get the 6 star wanted level.

For those who don't know - you can cross the big bridge even before it is opened, just do it on foot. I crossed it on foot on the pedestrian walkway and didn't realize I was doing anything wrong until helicopters were firing at me. Made it across on foot, grabbed a cop car that was empty and the chase was on through the island I wasn't supposed to be in yet. I ended up having to carjack a minivan, and was chased for another few minutes with no back tires and the rims throwing sparks everywhere until I lost control, flipped over a concrete median, and was mowed down by swat team officers. I like gaming moments like that.

Sadly, I've already unlocked all the islands. You can get 4 stars by entering the runway area of the airport, though. That's a start.

It was the algonquin bridge btw - the part i was walking on was next to train tracks I think. As soon as I passed a certain part on foot I was at 6 stars. There isn't even a warning. the only thing that might require a bit of luck is running across the bridge without dying from the gunfire, but it didn't seem too tough when I did it. Once you are over there, get a car ASAP. I was lucky and found a police cruiser in one of the walking tunnels parked on the staircase with the door open. Be careful when you are switching cars too - best to do it in one car but it might get so shot to shit you don't have a choice.

So what is your in-game addiction level? Mine says "The Weekend Has Landed" - longest continuous is at 2:30 - but 1:30 of that was spent standing in the apartment while I was working outside and bantering with some jehovas that accosted me out there.

anyone know what the different addiction levels are?

Cool. I still have to decide which next-gen console I'll have to buy. And I really want to play GTA-IV.

Last night I fired up my old X-box and had tons of fun with a friend playing Pro Evolution Soccer and Burnout.

then you probably missed a shitload of phonecalls and got everyone pissed at you..

i got the one man army achievement by driving my car into the traintunnel. strangely enough thats not allowed :D
i hid there for a few mins and then got out on foot, outran them even. it didnt get me the walk free achievement though.. looks like you have to have exactly 4 stars for that :(

:olo: :olo: I didnt get the WeazelNews reference until I just went online ingame and saw the logo.

also, the American Travel Guide to Europe is great.

'Europeans love to queue. Because we saved them in the war, we don't have to.'

'Chanting U-S-A is a great way to make friends in Europe.'

'Europeans enjoy a variety of pre-1776 sports. They also pretend the SuperBowl isn't the greatest event in the world. They're just bitter they never won the World Series'

Are you all going fast through the storyline or are you spending all sorts of time doing the side mission stuff? I haven't done any cab work, any work for brucie, etc. yet. Just found out about the police car computers - any funny names to look up in that thing?

And are there any funny phone calls you can make? If so give me the #'s.

The voice acting in this game is great, as are the subtle facial expressions of Nico during cutscenes - they did a great job of the cinematic aspects of the game with that stuff.
