Setting ASE up to startup the right Q3 version 1.30/31/32 is relatively easy too.
For Q4, ASE is obviously totally useless (except when you have some favorite servers you always play on).
ASE is supporting q4 since december last year...
reinstall your ASE again, it will add support.. ccc

The game just sucks...like i have said in another post, if they wait for too long, the game will died, cause nobody will be talking about that stupid game, that is fist of all not even optimize at all...the 3D engine is the worst of all in all the industrie.
If i compare this engine to some other new game that runs much better...as a exemple take F.E.A.R. this game has great effects and run pretty smoother, also The Chronicles of RIDDICK has great light effect and run smooth.
When I.D. release the quake 3 engine it was much better, all the game that came from that engine where running fine, but that new engine just sucks.
Just check the 2 games that allready came out from that engine, you got Doom III and Quake IV, on both games you have to tweak all kind of stuff to make it work properly.
You know its not everybody that know how to change thing into the config.cfg file, normally people just do some minor change into the game menu and BINGO youre game run fine.
I always had great respect for the game that came out of I.D. engine, but this time, i don't think they got it right....
Lucky for them that in the past they made a couples of great games, cause the way it is now, nobody would take the time to even talk about it...

Thats a big negative. Yes you can install some kind of crap patch for Q4 but if you don't add your own server lists to ASE it won't find shit in Q4.

I think you have better and quicker support for q4 with a registered version of ASE (i only heard this :>).

NOPE not true its still broken. ASE just sucks since Yahoo bought them out.

Cause even with High End PC you get 30 fps in Deathmatch with 10 or more players.
Cause the movement isnt smooth
Cause you cant rjump properly
Cause its very hard to find a server (ingamebrowser sucks, missing maps..)
Cause sounds are crap
Cause there are many games like Q3, FEAR, that run much smoother
Cause they sold a game that isnt finished, still in work
Cause old Q3 players wont switch to a laggy game
Cause new players dont wanna get shot 5 times in 2 minutes
Q4 Failed, sorry!

From
the interview with id about the 1.1 patch:
Is it planned for this patch to be the final game patch?
Willits: No. We have another one planned but the next update will be focused on adding more new content - we'll have more information available in the coming weeks, but it's a pretty large, professionally made update that we're once again giving to all of the players for free! We are having a lot of fun testing it here and we hope everyone else enjoys it too when it comes out.
Bah. :icon7: He's emphasizing the FREE!!11 content again but the masses will not start playing this game, regardless how many maps are added with pointreleases, as long as the gameplay, stability and performance of the game suck.

I agree, was offended and pissed off when I read that because twice in that article he mentiones FREE. Like we are supposed to be happy and content with that. Hell the game should be free since its so broken.

Good one, are we should get a refund for the money we paid ...

Meh, the single player was fine.
IMo they should have done JUST a single player. Perhaps focusing solely on it and stating that there would not have been any multiplayer at all would have led to a more polished game, a longer singleplayer campaign, and above all a lot less dissapointment from us lot.

It has single player? Hadn't noticed.

Therein lies much of the issue, everyone expected solid multiplayer. Even moreso after D3 failed to deliver.

That was sarcasim. Gues it was bad. Who really buys this game for single player though? Yes I know thats what the designers shoot for and not the competitive online aspect but come on. At least make it to where its playable, otherwise make it single player only.

Thats youre opinion, cause me even the single player mission wasnt that good, if i compare it to a game similar FPS. I did F.E.A.R. single player like 3 times now and still enjoy it, and a older one FARCRY that i did again 3 times at least.
The single player mission of Quake IV was OK but nothing to make me play it again and again....i compare this game to a old one that i did only once to try it...it was call; UNREAL II (the awekening)...
Like i said a OK game, but nothing to get exited...

It would be interesting to see the gross sales vs returns of the game to see if any aspect was good. I'd be willing to bet mp people weren't the only ones complaining.

wrd. osp/cpma are pretty much perfection imo when it comes to comptetitive arena based play. Why go back a few hundred years trying to re-invent the wheel when you can have a solid shooter like q3?

Amen to that. I hope the number of players keep increasing. I have noticed that the outflux of servers and players when Q4 was released from Q3, has now seemed to turn around and come back in like the tides.

no kiddin.
I waited for an update (1.2) installed it, fired up the game, it froze, Q4 is now uninstalled. Tired of waiting for patches and pissing around with cfg's trying to get this hunk of junk to run well. Not worth the hassle so it's officially on the forget-about-it list.
The only people playing MP are hardcore's who dont mind pissing with stupid files. The rest of us have moved on to games that play well through minimal in-game menu tweaks...as a game should be.
Q4 is nothing more than a lunchbag letdown supported by a few with high hopes and good intentions. The reality is...Q4 is dead and no patch is gonna fix the damage because the damage has spread beyond the game and into the community.

shame indeed. I just had a blast the past few hours riding the "1.2 is out lets play" wave. :icon31:

Looks like QuakeWars will get water:

Perhaps someone will simply do a Q3 Arena type mod for QuakeWars?

I'm also disappointed with the lack of interest in Q4, It's hard finding a server with players & a decent ping. I really hope things pick up with the 1.3 patch thats supposed to have gameplay changes & new content.
I'm in the minority in that I have a decent computer that can run Q4, but I hope id software gets better performance for mid/lower end computers gamers in the upcoming 1.3 patch.
Hopefully Q4 won't be the first Quake game that doesn't stay installed on my hard drive for years to come. All past Quake games had a nice long stay on my HD & all were great fun.
Lets hope we can get back to playing for fun & stop all the flaming & complaining that seems to have taken over anything related to Quake 4.
