i liked it...the whone Prof X thing is very cool i think, it really opens up alot.
Magy started getting his powers back in the end. I think this could be explained by Hanks hand when he went to meet jonny. It seems that it doesnt kill the entire cell off?
dunno...i just really enjoyed it for what it was

Edit: WTF was that Arclight thing? Man, woman, kitchen appliance?

I read he's supposed to be gay. Which would explain a lot.

Huh? Archangel isn't gay.
And yeah, Arclight is a chick. She was apparently sleeping with the director.
Originally arclight was supposed to be the character Stacy X but the changed her so that she could do that clappy thing in the last fight, hence why she looks like Stacy X but is called Arclight.

You would be fucking suprised how many movies have scenes right after the credits, in the theatres I go in addition to me there are allways about 5 people left behind, catching these scenes.
HA HA. Missing out man.
Just like Spython Filter: Dark Mirror for PSP. After the EXTREMLY LONG credits there is a serriously plot twisting suprise ending.
Even on my DVD's I like to fast foreward the credits to check for hidden scenes, you would be suprised what you find.
Like the Battlestar Galactica DVD's.

i forgot to mention how terrifying that Arclight creature was. I was convinced it was a man with prosthetic breasts, or some sewer-demon cousin of Rosario Dawson's (because it looked like it had the street-corner coiffeuse version of her Sin City hairdo) but then the Quill guy addressed her and that other chick as "girls."

I'm guessing Patrick Stewart just didn't want to do another X-men movie. This takes care of this nicely without killing the character.
Plus, the "cure" is obviously not permanent, so we'll probably see Rogue back again. Should be interesting to see if they'll make her absorb someone's powers permanently, so she'll have the same flying/superstrength powers as in the comics.

with Anna Paquin in the role? not bloody likely.
And it sounded to me like Patrick Stewart's voice at the end coming from the coma dude. So ... I would think they're kinda locked into using him.

I thought it was a good movie.
1 and 2 were better.
Im sure there will be X men 4 after an ending like that.
There will be a movie about Magneto next year
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499519/
"A young Magneto seeks revenge on the Nazis who killed his family while befriending a young Charles Xavier."

Actually, I think it was because Beast wasn't close enough to the kid. I'm pretty sure they mentioned that people only lost their powers within a certain radius of him, so obviously only Beast's hand was close enough to lose its mutancy. Also why the 'walk thru walls' girl tells him to stay real close.
edit: I think its more likely that the 'cure' is only temporary. The body ultimately rejects whatever is blocking the mutant gene?

aye but it doesnt kill the cell off because when you leave the radius surrounding the kid beasts hand went back to, erm, normal
i think... :]

It just seemed to me that a lot of the liberties he took with the story, were just plain unneccessary to make it a good film. Rogue giving up her powers for the love story stands out as one, but there were others. Why make the dark Pheonix a psychological issue? I can understand that the alien symbiote/whatever wouldn't exactly have fit in with the mutant vs. human war they decided on for the storyline, but why not make it a mutant who hijacked Jean's body and powers, instead of making it a generic split-personality disorder, that was all Professor X's fault?
Why kill Jean Grey, when the antidote would have stopped all the destruction?
Magneto turning his back so quickly on Mystique was pretty ridiculous, since that didn't seem to fit with the character that was developed in the movie - a man who had a lot of character and grand vision, but who thought his approach was the only way.
I wasn't much of a fan of the Cyclops character in the films either, but he just seemed to be the first domino to fall in a quest to kill off as many characters as possible for a contrived dramatic effect.
And after Nightcrawler was so involved in the battle in the last movie, he is just omitted and not spoken of in this one, like he just disappeared with no explanation.
It seems like the writer, for whatever reason, already felt he needed to kill off a lot of the characters, and just had to fit them all in somewhere.
And like someone already mentioned, Magneto could have practically won the last battle and gotten the boy by himself, so the battle only added to the feeling that everything was very contrived to get to the point they wanted it to, but still without putting much thought in the way it should be played out.
I had read the original comics arc and I wish they had stuck to it - There was a far greater feeling of grandeur in the original.
As to why they did it with the split personality - I would say for simplicity and the director's ego. Also, when Jean kills Scott, it makes it more poignant that a part of her actually did it and not just a wacko mutant.
"Why kill Jean Grey when there was the antidote?" - Because just as Magneto's powers are coming back, Jean's probably would also have come back.
Magneto didn't get the boy himself for the same reason he stated in the movie - he knows the enemy had ample time to setup defense directly against him, but he doesn't know what those defense are so he lets his minions go in first and test the enemy. For all he knew, it was a trap for him. They might have been able to hit him with the antidote in other ways (Nightcrawler teleporting in, some super blinding fast mutant just running up to him, etc.) so he kept his attention on defense, not on hurling cars into soldiers.
Also, in the original comics, Jean does come back or more precisely, she never died (even though they make the reader think she did)

And yes, Jean did die in the comic. The phoenix force revived her, hence "phoenix".

Did I miss something? Looked to me he was moving the chess thingies with his hands.

Very enjoyable flick, sadly I forgot about this extra scene.
Nightcrawler is that teleporter guy in the 2nd movie? Christ, that technique owns.
EDIT: Oh right, there were these two fellas sitting next to movie that lacked the ability to shut up. They sounded like they'd read the entire comics way too many times, kept shouting each time someone did anything. Wasn't really annoying though, I'm too relaxed to care about stuff like that.

Um, didn't the phoenix really make a copy of Jean in the comic, and she (the real Jean) was later recovered from the bottom of the ocean, where the shuttle crashed?

JEan Grey has one of the most convuluted histories in comics.
And no, the copy thing you're thinking about is the Goblin Queen. The Goblin Queen was a clone of Jean Grey that posed as her while she was dead. But no, the Goblin Queen wasn't created by the phoenix. At least I don't think so.

Jackal. Actually you are wrong - the phoenix force didn't revive the "original" Jean.
Later on in the X-Men, it is revealed that the Phoenix created a clone of Jean and put the original Jean in a cocoon in stasis.
It was the clone which died in the first Phoenix arc, not the original Jean. The Wiki entry has the complete story - here is an excerpt about the Avengers finding the cocoon much later on after the original Phoenix arc:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Grey
- please read the comics or the wiki entry before replying with more babble
"During Richard's analysis, the pod cracked open and Jean emerged. Jean, seeing differences between the members of the Fantastic Four she knew versus the ones before her, attacked them. They eventually convinced Jean to calm down. Jean had no memories from the time she flew the shuttle until she hatched from the cocoon. Unfortunately, due to the technology Reed used to hatch her, she was now without her telepathy, but as a side-effect, the power of her telekinesis had increased dramatically"
Also, Madelyne Pryor was the SECOND clone of Jean.
It does get convoluted, quite messy.

The Phoenix did not create a clone of Jean Grey. The clone of Jean Grey was created by Mr. Sinister and the clone's name was Madelyn Pryor. Sinister created the clone because he knew that the genes of Cyclops and Jean Grey could potentially make the "perfect" mutant. They did eventually have a child and that child was Cable.
And maybe I shouldn't have used the word "revived" but it was the phoenix that was responsible for resurecting Jean Grey.
