That would be game over.
pretty much.

it's good though, a clear end to the format war. now they can all get on and concentrate on the content. it also means i have a valid reason for buying a PS3

Yep, as much as I hate the price of the thing, I might end up getting one before too long.

you can't hate the price if you're looking for a BR player.

I should have said "hated". I didn't want a BR player until recently.

now if they can muster some better games, it'd almost be a bargain if the format war is ending fairly soon.

So Sony pays off a bunch of movie companies to endorse their technology, even though it's technically slightly inferior, and thus finds a way to reap rewards from from a shitty console without having to worry about things like market forces.

Bravo, brav-o.

BetaNews [08 Jan 2008 20:16:19]: Blu-ray: Early adopters knew what they were getting into
URL: http://www.betanews.com/article/Bluray_ ... 1199841379
Description: Blu-ray may have taken a commanding lead in the next-generation format war, but the company has a big problem looming with outdated players.
Representatives at the Blu-ray booth at CES told BetaNews that the PlayStation 3 is currently the only player they would recommend, due to upcoming changes to the platform.

And i'm also kind of expecting it to be a rootkit under the cloak of "DRM" :/

I have a PS3 and HD DVD drive, so I'm safe... But its sad I bought a PS3 JUST for the BluRay player. I've had it a month and still dont have any games for it. Reason being, the PS3 games look awful. I've tried Ratchet, Drakes Fortune etc but they all look like ass on my 40" 1080p sammy and dont know why, when 360 games render sexy as fuck over HDMI.

No the games awesome, thats a fact. Loved the demo and want to pic it up.

But its not 1080p. Its not even AAed in 720p. It looks like ass.

Thing is, I know its the PS3 being stupid, because to get some games to look good you have to mess with the resolution settings before starting some games. Why?!

No, its a problem with PS3 games because the PS3 doesn't scale, yet the 360 does. Your TV is probably 720p, in which case they will look fine.

But when you play a 720p game on PS3 on a 1080p set, they look like ass. Playing 1080p games on the PS3 (Like GT5 concept), they look pixel perfect. Any game on 360 looks pixel perfect.

Its not just me, its a lot of people. Its a problem with PS3 scaling in general.
