I just remember not being able to control my aim with the mouse, guys being harder to kill than me, and not being able to avoid their gun shots.

Being able to simultaneously use plasmids and weapons is pretty cool. You can use the good old stun and gun with the Electro plasmid or Incinerate to finish off low health mobs while reloading, etc. Good fun.

different era sir. deus ex was designed exclusively for the pc, thus no limitations on memory, scaling, controls etc.. not to mention the average age of the pc gamer. its a tired argument, but dx2 was inferior because of changing attitudes in gaming, specifically multi-platform support as standard and streamlining/simplification for the masses. in a way, i'm glad it was ion storm who did the sequel, because it just goes to show that even talented studios can fuck things up with bad management and planning.
i came to terms years ago that we'll never get a game like it again. despite this, we still get great games like ME2, which despite being simplified, are done so tastefully and are still a lot of fun to play.

If you're after Deus Ex type games, Vampire Bloodlines is a pretty damn good one, although very buggy unless patched with one of the unofficial community patches.

As well as the sidekick, I really enjoyed the bit where you play as a little sister, seeing the game world through their eyes, seeing why they call them "angels" etc.

I have no idea why they went with the bloody train at the start. It really cuts the experience up into separate chunks, which breaks the flow too much IMO. I liked how you traveled back and forth much more in BioShock 1.

That was my favorite part of System Shock 2, how you could go to any deck for a new objective or to go get some chemicals for research. Really made it feel like a persistent world.

Just beat this game today for the first time. Having played it after Bioshock 1 and 2 I can say with confidence that it's the superior game.

Anyone tried the multiplayer? I played it a bit last week and have found it to be extremely enjoyable.
It's not as extensively worked out compared to what a game like Modern Warfare 2 has to offer, but it's far more like a return to classic Quake style deathmatch than MW2 is. My main gripe with MW2 (and Gears of War as well) was that it was too random. 9 out of 10 times you got killed by players you hadn't even spotted yet.
In Bioshock 2 it takes more to down someone. So because of this, there's actually people shooting at each other rather than one player being slightly faster than the other, resulting in the death of one of them. I think in the Gametrailers review, the reviewer mentions that it takes too long to kill someone, but IMO this opinion is heavily influenced by games like MW2 which is all twitch kills. As a result, I find that I am far more competitive in Bioshock 2 than in MW2 or GOW.
Bioshock 2 offers a similar perk system as MW2, where you gain levels and unlock weapons, weapon upgrades, new plasmids and trials (make 30 kills with plasmid X, make two consecutive headshots with weapon Y, etc). There's only a few gamemodes though, such as Free For All, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Little Sister (One Flag CTF with a Little Sister instead of a flag and a little sister vent instead of a flag base) or Adam grab (where you have to hold a little sister for as long as possible, both in individual and team flavors) a domination kind of game and last man standing.
Try it, it's really enjoyable.

The only thing good about it was the way they let you unlock audio tapes of Rapture, and even see it in some form while it was still new and fresh. But the actual gameplay was about as basic as you could get. That, armed with the terrible netcode, awful physics and even worse control input, made it painfull to play.
If you enjoy it, awesome, I can see why some people would have lower standards, but to me it wasnt needed and feels really tacked on. The shear fact you cant control graphics options and you have a monster choice of THREE sensitivity variables shows how much they cared for it.

I had none of these problems playing on the XBox 360.
I don't see how "basic gameplay" is necessarily a bad thing. I don't need all the bells and whistles to enjoy a good game. And I dunno, but looking at what Bioshock 2 offers out of the box, Quake 3 Arena's offering looks pretty bleak.
