I was actually impressed by them, thought the French migthve just inched it (stats wise) but England never had much of an attack to begin with and still managed to grab a goal, while defending against a deadly attack of Ribery / Nasri / Benzema and handling the dodgy decisions by the ref rather well, thought a draw was deserved for both teams and still early days yet, not entirely sure how well that french squad is actually playing, they seemed pretty piss poor in possession but theyre not the team that dropped out the world cup

Fuck, that was a very entertaining match though, it was all out war for nearly the whole match haha :) The greeks got tired in the end though, poor gits.

If the dutchies put up a fight with even half of that grim determination tomorrow itll be good fun

and wtf is this offside rule all about anyway? It just feels pointless and rather unnecessarily restricting of scoring potential. I can't think of a good reason why it's in place other than to give the goalie some level of support against possibly very difficult odds. I just don't see that as a good reason at all. At what point was it decided that 'soccer' had too much scoring action going on? lol

Not to mention it promotes some serious defender trolling action. :disgust:

If there were no offside rule the game would devolve into no midfield, just defence and attack. The penalty box would be occupied the whole time and high long passes from behind would try to reach any striker near the goal, noone would bother to try and run up with the ball - ie very ugly & unexciting football. It's a good rule.

PS i predict Dutcheeland vs Germany 0 - 3.

Aye, somehow i don't have any faith in our team this year... i hope to be surprised by attractive & excellent footy but the last matches were just awful. It's game over i fear.

k but if everyone camped offence wouldn't their defense be open? I just don't see that happening.... if anything, the players would end up alot more spread out?!

fine whatever, I'm not in the mood

dutch finally seemed to get their crap together in the last ten minutes or so. here's hoping they crush portugal 5-1 and Germany doesn't draw against Denmark.

I doubt this Dutch team is able to win from Portugal, let alone with 2 points difference. And if they are, I'm sure Germany will draw against Denmark because they miss a penalty :olo:

Not really, but the level of fuckery in their defense at some points was laughable. That first goal had no less than 3 Irish defenders doing nothing but looking sheepishly (they're Irish after all) at the ball giving Torres the opportunity to score.

England vs Sweden tonight but I'm more interested in Ukraine vs France...

The French have been a bit cunty about everything so I'm hoping that Sheva can pop a few in and turn the French over, though this is unlikely in fairness
