what hype? everyone's known for a long time that you can't play this game with your friends, which deflated any hype there might have been

Yeah, what's the point of a huge universe to explore if you're all by yourself?

In all honesty, it works in KSP, although that has a lot more going for it.

Leaked copies
We’re just a week away from the release of the much-hyped space game No Man’s Sky, and there are already leaked copies floating around, which means early impressions are popping up. And some fans are having a meltdown.
Over the past few days, players with early copies of No Man’s Sky have been posting streams and impressions of their experiences. As a result, fans of the game—really, fans of the game’s marketing and hype—have started fretting about No Man’s Sky’s length, bugs, and lack of variety, among many other things. Since Friday, when Redditor Daymeeuhn bought a copy of the game on eBay for $1,300, forums like GAF and Reddit have been full of people freaking out over his early thoughts.

4 months later, they still haven't. Now we know why.

I was thinking the same thing. From
Kotaku:
Since then, I’ve spent another 2-3 hours with No Man’s Sky, and so far I’m having a blast. It’s a lovely, serene space adventure that was clearly designed for people who love exploring. Don’t expect this to be the space game of all space games—it’s clear from the beginning that there are a very set number of things you can do—but if you’re into chill exploration games, this will probably be up your alley.

Maybe it's just me, but these planets all look a bit similar. There's no oceanic world, nothing resembling our moon, no true forests, nothing that's as flat as my precious home country or as mountainous as the Alps. It's all just rolling hills with small rocks, huge rocks and any size rock in between, trees (or whatever passes for them) scattered around. The variety of environments found on just Earth alone is far wider than what's on display here. I really get the feeling that if you've seen one planet, you've pretty much seen 'em all.

I'm tired of this procedurally-generated shit. I'd much rather play a game that was actually developed, because it's always going to be a far superior experience when done right.

2 things makes me pass on a game: procedural generated "campaign", or open world.

The best thing about this game I've noticed so far is the music. 65daysofstatic is pretty cool.

yeah, just been watching Lirik raging about this on Twitch
basically, it's the same thing that makes minecraft terrain so boring: same shit repeated slightly differently for zillions of miles in every direction

So it's out?
I got junk (e)mail to say it's available for PS but no mention of PC.
EDIT: Checked...
Hello Games is still working on No Man's Sky's PC version
It launches on Friday
If you thought Hello Games, makers of No Man's Sky, exhaled and flopped into bed at midnight for a well deserved two-month nap or something, forget it. Even if the game launched today on PlayStation 4, they're still pounding away on the PC version coming Aug. 12.

Y'all seen this Reddit thread?
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGa ... seriously/
I just don't get it. Why doesn't Hello Games simply come out and explain exactly what is and isn't possible in this game. They've kept aspects of the game extremely secret and it's starting to look like they didn't want to admit, it's lacking. Players are slowly realizing the game isn't what they thought it would be. The vastness of the universe makes the game feel lonely and boring. What's the point in finding and naming all these planets if you can't share it with someone else? A single player experience needs more substance. The idea for this game is great, but it only works with a completely multiplayer experience...
