My new laptop (eat this mac foghats)
I didn't buy this for the portability (at least, not primarily). The whole point of purchasing it for me was to have a desktop replacement that has no wires, and allows me to work anywhere in the house/garden. Eventually, I might lose the desktop PC entirely, but for now the laptop is the dedicated work machine.dnoyc wrote:what's the point of getting a laptop that weighs as much as your desktop, once the novelty of it wears of it's just going to sit on your table at home cuz it's too heavy to take anywhere. when i buy a laptop i first make sure it's actually portable.
If I wanted portability, I wouldn't buy a 17" notebook

Firstly, I never mentioned "equality" or "high-end" performance. Secondly, I wasn't even aware it was a question since you never included a question mark (you were probably thinking of death and poetry at the time, so I suppose you're forgiven on that point though). Lastly, (and most importantly) you're a goth homo.

lol. are you asking questions again, or putting words into peoples mouths? Search google.. you'll find that the Pentium M is approximately 1.5x the speed of the P4 mobile equivalent. I can't see where your argument is coming from. I know you're angry, but surely there are other ways to release the torment of being a pasty gothnerd.SOAPboy wrote:brisk wrote:"since when does the P:M "equal" high end p4 performance.."SOAPboy wrote: answer my question..

Yeah, but it's essential for a laptop to be 'instant on' when you're on the go... At least for me it is.brisk wrote:I've had problems with the feature in the past. Besides which, boot times in XP (especially fresh installs like this) aren't a problem. About 30 seconds from pressing the power button to GUI functionality.rep wrote:Why don't you use hibernate?brisk wrote:
pure sex.
What sort of issues have you had with hibernate? The worst that can happen is it loses the hibernation file due to some hard drive problem, and you have to start regularly, then you're good to hibernate again.
My boot times to XP Professional are 18 seconds standard, 9 seconds hibernate. (I measure from the screen right after the system POST to when the Welcome screen disappears.)
I had a 450MHz K6-2 classic machine laying around that I installed XP on and stripped it of all the superfluous services and start up entries, and it beat some of my newer machines into Windows. Funny what a clean install can do.

My main problem (in the past, I haven't used the feature since) was that coming out of hibernation and getting back to the working state took just as long as a fresh reboot. In this respect, I found the feature quite redundant.
I'll certainly give it another try though, as the last time I used the feature was 2 PC generation's ago.

12" screen isn't so bad and it's very very portablebrisk wrote:Yeah, i'd like an ultra-portable laptop too, but I can't really justify spending cash on something that I wouldn't really find much use for. I got this 17" model because its big enough to use for the creative apps, and also rocks it for the games. I guess the only use i'd make for a 12" model would be to show my work at uni or to clients. But looks wise, I still prefer the powermacs. They're the epitome of sleek and sexy.
Mini DVi out = connect it to anything you like VGA/DVI
While you've bought a really nice laptop there it seems to me that it's price/performance and an extension of your desktop rather than a more sound choice considering what industry you want to work in and your interests (eg your music).
hmm, could've had a 15" combo for the same price, or a fully loaded 12". The 15" weighs less by ~2lbs too :icon31:

not a bad laptop tho.. id rock it ^_^
My main system is an AMD Athlon 64 3000, 512MB, ATI X800 Pro, 400GB HDD
So perhaps a slight exageration on my part, but it still holds its own, especially in the image editing/music production area.
This is what im refering to..
when yes as far as laptops ONLY go, this statement is perfectly fine.. but hes also talking about his desktop in the next sentence..
So in conclusion, hes "right" about laptops..Not Desktops..

sure thing man..dnoyc wrote:i would just like to point out that soap is a total retard and knows nothing about cpus. brisk is correct a 2Ghz ish PM is generally faster than a 3Ghz ish P4. this is mostly due to the P4 being utter shit, but that is an altogether different story.
