My new laptop (eat this mac foghats)

what's the point of getting a laptop that weighs as much as your desktop, once the novelty of it wears of it's just going to sit on your table at home cuz it's too heavy to take anywhere. when i buy a laptop i first make sure it's actually portable.

I didn't buy this for the portability (at least, not primarily). The whole point of purchasing it for me was to have a desktop replacement that has no wires, and allows me to work anywhere in the house/garden. Eventually, I might lose the desktop PC entirely, but for now the laptop is the dedicated work machine.

If I wanted portability, I wouldn't buy a 17" notebook

lol. are you asking questions again, or putting words into peoples mouths? Search google.. you'll find that the Pentium M is approximately 1.5x the speed of the P4 mobile equivalent. I can't see where your argument is coming from. I know you're angry, but surely there are other ways to release the torment of being a pasty gothnerd.

I would say: powerbooks are great for everything but games...... until you try to run a couple of instances of Guitar Rig on them. Compare with my dual G5, where I haven't even begun to stress the system even with loads of instances of guitar rig and nice complicated reverbs.

I've had problems with the feature in the past. Besides which, boot times in XP (especially fresh installs like this) aren't a problem. About 30 seconds from pressing the power button to GUI functionality.

but not on this thing tho, ive not start-up'd more then 12 times total i bet and i got it when it came out 4 months maybe not sur

Yeah, but it's essential for a laptop to be 'instant on' when you're on the go... At least for me it is.

What sort of issues have you had with hibernate? The worst that can happen is it loses the hibernation file due to some hard drive problem, and you have to start regularly, then you're good to hibernate again.

My boot times to XP Professional are 18 seconds standard, 9 seconds hibernate. (I measure from the screen right after the system POST to when the Welcome screen disappears.)

I had a 450MHz K6-2 classic machine laying around that I installed XP on and stripped it of all the superfluous services and start up entries, and it beat some of my newer machines into Windows. Funny what a clean install can do.

My main problem (in the past, I haven't used the feature since) was that coming out of hibernation and getting back to the working state took just as long as a fresh reboot. In this respect, I found the feature quite redundant.

I'll certainly give it another try though, as the last time I used the feature was 2 PC generation's ago.

Nah, don't be put off by the Pentium M Mhz specs.. its actually equivelant to a P4 2.5/3.0ghz.

My main system is an AMD Athlon 64 3000, 512MB, ATI X800 Pro, 400GB HDD

So perhaps a slight exageration on my part, but it still holds its own, especially in the image editing/music production area.

i would just like to point out that soap is a total retard and knows nothing about cpus. brisk is correct a 2Ghz ish PM is generally faster than a 3Ghz ish P4. this is mostly due to the P4 being utter shit, but that is an altogether different story.
