One of you guys, make a map with less tris than the original, and the same exact textures, with ambient lighting. Just do it. I mean, what the fuck? YOu know it would take like ten minutes.

Release it with 1 ambiant light. How many fps would that save? The people who are going to play it seriously would have it that way anyway!

r_lightdetaillevel 9!!

Its not just about lights, its about overdraw, its about more than just one damn thing.

You're telling me that the d3 engine can't render a q3 stage at a q3 level of detail? That is rediculous. Just do it, just for now. What the hell could it hurt?

I don't map, so I don't know much about this. But I am wondering how maps like pro-bliptourney1 and galang can be released, and even maps like over the edge, but not this one?

Just a guess but you can see further in dm6 from certain angles then you can in those other maps. The engine is drawing to much?

In other words, its not going to happen any time soon, not without massive changes that TBH will look silly anyways.
'Remix' is the magic word. :) All that is needed is someone with some creativity and spare time. ;)

No, just fucking port it. It will be less than 100 tris for christ's sake!

I don't think it needs to be closed. This is obviously a map the community wants to see and it can definitely be done. All it needs is for someone to step up to the plate and finish it, regardless of whether changes need to be made so it will still run well.

I love how o`dumbone keeps making all these lame excuses because he can't map :olo: This map can easily be redone to run at good speeds, it will have to have some basic structural changes redone to feel right, but it's not the engine holding it back from running at decent speeds.

Hey at least I tried. I worked on it for a week before i had to go on holiday. What the fuck have you done about it, other than bash somebody on an internet forum for trying something? Make you feel big?

O'dium, you got people psyched up for this map then dropped the project entirely when it hit a few snags. You can't blame people for being disappointed that you gave up on something the community was looking forward to.

IMO you should make whatever structural changes are necessary and release the map. Sure some people may whine that its not exactly the same as DM6 but it would be better than what we have now (nothing). It'd be a shame to see the work you've done so far wasted.

I never "gave up". I had 3 different people that took it off my hands and offered to re-vis it, but nobody came through.

Even if it was vised, people would of still moaned, like was showed here; The shadows are wrong. The levels to dark. The scales are off. The level looks different. etc etc.

In other words, try it. Honestly, try it. Spend a week of your life making a level for a bunch of people that will never be satisfied, and see if you run into a rew snags and dont pass it on. Remember, i have a life too, and i went on holiday. That was more important than some map.

Why not finish up the project to the best of your ability and release it now that your holiday is over? People always snivel, especially nerds, but don't worry about it too much. There are many of us who would enjoy playing DM6 again even if structural changes had to be made. I'd run it up on my server right away and I'm sure that there are many other server admins who would do the same. Nobody is asking you to put months into this but another couple of days (when you have time)would be really appreciated.

It being to dark and having wrong shadows can be fixed. Simply make it have 1 light. :D

Like people haven't criticized good maps before? People criticized the original dm6. If that's your opinion, then you should stop mapping now.

What has been done until now should be released to the public, like this everyone can try to bite their teeth out on it :icon32:
Or is the latest beta available up2date ?
I think the community is starving for dm6 (not including myself) so it should become a community project, and they would not bug you anymore. And you get credit and can still blame the others if people dont like it ;)

heh, give the map over to me and Ill finish it.
Just need to get the actual game rather than playing the demo so I can edit the map...lol
But seriously, Id love to help out on this map =)

(I wonder if somebody's going to take the time and effort to make a 3rd party map editor for Quake 4 instead of using the one that ships with the game?)

Hopefully gtk radaint supports quake 4 editing. Any for all you no mappers bitching about this map, start downloading some tutorials and learn how to do it your selfs. Free lance mappers do not get paid and try to contribute to the community when they can. Once you can make maps better then these guys they you may open your mouths.

if i find myself with a week off i'll do it with the latest beta as soon as i get it.
O'dium is right as i've said a few times the map is a bitch to vis and light but i managed to create several vis portals on the original beta.
if O'dium wants me to do it i will as soon as i get the latest build.
my word is my bond provided i get some time off ..been working my ass off :(
