Yes, but which console has better graphics at 1080p?
Your world is waiting...

But when you play a 720p game on PS3 on a 1080p set, they look like ass. Playing 1080p games on the PS3 (Like GT5 concept), they look pixel perfect. Any game on 360 looks pixel perfect.
Its not just me, its a lot of people. Its a problem with PS3 scaling in general.
Yeah, is your PC monitor also 40 inchs? Come on man, work with me here. You know damn well a none scaled image on a desktop monitor will look fine compared to a 40 inch LCD.shaft wrote:o'dium wrote:No, its a problem with PS3 games because the PS3 doesn't scale, yet the 360 does. my pc monitor is 1080p...
Not really pwnt. Your monitor is displaying a native res of 720p. Which means even 1080p games look the same as 720p. Because thats the highest it can go. Scale that image to 40 inches, then compare a native 1080p display to a 720p display.shaft wrote:nevermind..my pc monitor dropped to 720..but apparently it scales better than ur samsung...pwnt?
PS3 is going to remain a serious competitor once HD-content takes over, the Wii is tossed aside, and Blu-ray becomes the standard (which is looking increasingly likely).o'dium wrote:Debatable, really, depends on the game. So far the 360 has impressed me the most games wise in terms of graphics. Gears, a 720p game, still looks better than most games out now. Bioshock in true 1080p looks stunning.
For films, so far HDDVD and BluRay tie, at 1080p res. Cant tell much difference. Desktop wise, the PS3 was built for 1080p, so the menu (Dashboard) looks stunning on PS3 over HDMI. The 360 dash looks a bit naff over HDMI.
TBH it depends on the game itself dunnit.
But with regards to the PS3, not many games have AA, and nearly all of them are 720p. So when you have a 720p game with zero AA rendering on a 1080p set with a 1080p resolution and zero upscaling, its gonna look shit compared to a 720p image with AA and a decent scaler at 1080p.
lol.o'dium wrote:Reason being, the PS3 games look awful. I've tried Ratchet, Drakes Fortune etc but they all look like ass on my 40" 1080p sammy and dont know why
Erm, 720p content is fine on 360, and streaming to the 360 as well? What are you on about?shaft wrote:no seriously...your tv has trouble scaling 720 to 1080? A shitload of network television is broadcast in 720p, that sucks for you. i cant imagine what standard def looks like on it.
and my monitors native res is 1920x1200, so it does scale a 720p image...but i agree its not like a 40" tv.
you talk about this like you know, like you were on the deve team for the PS3 and Samsung. in reality you don't, you're just guessing.o'dium wrote:Erm, 720p content is fine on 360, and streaming to the 360 as well? Its the PS3 scaler thats the problem. Its a known fact that some PS3 games dont just "work". Take for example COD4, you cant just put the game in and play it in 1080p, no matter what TV you have. With the PS3 option you have to disable various options on the dashboard before it will even play at that res, otherwise it drops to 720p.
The 360 is different. It plays every game at the res you set it to in the dashboard, via scaling. In other words its got a built in scaler which does the job better/nicer than a TV. So even playing a 720p game looks nice, because its upscaled to 1080p (even though its still a 720p image). The PS3 doesn't have this. It just renders the 720p image at 720p, regardless of TV resolution, which is why they look like arse in most cases.
what are you getting at? quit trying to force the ps3 to scale to 1080p and let the chip in your 2k tv do it. youre going around in circles unless youre trying to tell me the 360 scales better than both your tv and ps3.o'dium wrote:Erm, 720p content is fine on 360, and streaming to the 360 as well?
