Missile Defense: Canada says no to Bush
Canada's government has just said no to joining the useless American missile defense program.
It's been interesting to watch U.S. officials try to bully us into it. Bush himself on his visit here told us that he couldn't fathom why we wouldn't join. He expressed incredulity that the Canadian public wouldn't just accept the program based on the word of their political leaders. The U.S. Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci (who is a total scumbag I might add) has repetedly tried to goad us into it.
But the thing is, it'll never work anyway. The missile defense system can't hit shit and it's going nowhere fast. I'm glad Martin had the guts to stand up to Bush on what would be a total waste of our tax dollars.
To be clear though, we will be helping on missile defense with detection as part of our NORAD committment.
Celluccie says they may not shoot down missiles aimed at Canada. North Korea is going to launch icbms at Vancouver? Sorry Bush and Co. we don't scare that easily. Fucking wankers.

Haha, Prime Minister Martin and foreign affairs minister Pierre Pettigrew both just gave press briefings on this.
Martin made clear that what we wouldn't agree to do, was help with the missile defense development (read $ for American corps) or help with the operational phase(bases on our soil ironically making us a target). Reporters were trying to get him to say that the missile defense system was a boondoggle but he was diplomatic and didn't shit on Bush like he should have.
Pettigrew practically burst out laughing when he said the Americans respected our decision.

Our filthy liberal government in Canada has yet another balanced budget. In fact it is anticipated that our surplus may grow dramatically over the next few years. We're even budgeted to have tax cuts.
Of course I have my complaints, but we're in okay shape as a country.

I'm surprised to hear that from an Albertan, but yes I'm pleased as well. I would've preferred that post-secondary thing that the NDP was talking about in the budget though.

How's that suprizing? I might not be a fan of the liberals, but damn, over the past couple years, they've really pulled shit together :icon14:Massive Quasars wrote:I'm surprised to hear that from an Albertan, but yes I'm pleased as well. Edit: Plus as it seems right now, the budget only gets better over next 5 years
