Jesus fucking christ GAIM is a joke
I've had my reservations about GAIM for a while, but now I need to message someone and all of a sudden GAIM won't restore from the taskbar. Double click it... it flashes then dissapears.
Rebooted, reinstalled, same shit.
What a fucking horrible bug.
I would take the time to fix the problem, but to be honest GAIM has been on probation with me. Back to Miranda I go.
BTW Miranda gets props... tons of options and although it's ugly at first, it's minimalistic and you can add all that extra shit back in if you feel you need it. Supports the most networks of any IM client I know, too.

With MSN becoming a serious contender for IM about 4 years ago, I decided the way forward was a multi-protocol IM client. Haven't looked back since then.
The proprietary clients from ICQ MSN and the others are all a joke. Bloated, slow, and with features I genuinely don't need. They're like internet versions of the latest mobile phones, and skip around the issue that all you want to do is send and receive messages with the minimum of hassle.
Since various members of my family and friends use ICQ and MSN varyingly, being able to offer them a contact for each is important. It doesn't make sense to deliberately cut one's self off from a section of people online, just because I don't care for their choice of IM client.

I love gaim, works well and have had NO issues or bugs with it.. O_o
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

MSN and Yahoo teaming up should definitely make things more interesting:

There's always been a serious lack of features on the Windows version. Inability to customise the contacts display and behaviour in quite as much detail as Miranda affords.
On top of that, the number of plugins available is much lower than Miranda and Trillian too.
Don't get me wrong. GAIM was okay, but it suffers heavily on Windows becuase of it's cross-platform support. Some of the shit it does is great (the initial signon progress chart) and some of it is shoddy (IRC support, no file transfer in ICQ).

yeah, it certainly lacks alot of plugins like trill and miranda. i'm not too sure WHAT i didn't like about miranda, but when i tried it sometime last year, i hated it.
trillian i used to use exclusively, but it seemed to want to crash a couple of times a week. legit pro copy, too. not sure if i want to go back and pay up again.
