my screen goes black!!!

when i open quake4 the screen goes black n then i am sent back 2 the desktop. help!.

amd 1.2 duron 512 of infineon ram n 9200 ati card i updated everyting tho!

Did you by any chance set the quality to ultra?
It took me back to my desktop when I did, it actually raped my pc.
I set it down to high quality and its running beautifully.

i dont remember setting anything it didnt give me the option maybe it did i missed it part way thru

In the settings go to 'system'. Click on the button to get the game to
automatically configure ur graphics settings. Restart Q4 and see what happens.

EDIT: Sorry I read ur first post wrong, You cant actually get into the game at all then? :icon32:

You don't come close to meeting the minimum requirements for the game and that might be part of the issue.

You're talking about running it on a machine that is 800 mhz lower than minimum spec and a graphics card that is 2 generations behind minimum spec....time for an upgrade.

I think its the time now unfortunately where you cant even run a new game on slow settings.
Before you could just ignore the min specs and still play the game ok.
But we are talking about a next-gen game here sadly, things change

upgrade your video card drivers and use a low quality config.

Perhaps your Refresh rate is set too high.
Do you have the program installed that forces XP to set your refresh rate high when playing games?

If you do, then set it to defaut let XP set the refresh rate for you .

The minimum spec for a processor is a 2000+ XP. Don't think that would have anything to do with it, but you never know.

First off...your video card does not support DirectX 9c. Secondly, you need Windows 2000 or XP.

Q4 uses the SSE instruction set, which Durons don't have.
