Recommended Graphics Cards?

Post by Dusted »

It’s been a while since I stuck my nose in here; it just seemed strangely fitting that after a year away from any game of note my first port of call was these forums. I guess old habits die hard, eh?

I’ve recently upgraded most of the PC and the release of Q4 is the perfect excuse to upgrade the graphics card too – there is no way I’m going to get by on a GeForce 4 MX440 these days. Money is a factor at the moment so I’m leaning towards a 6800 GT, but I’d appreciate any strong recommendations of anything within the £250(ish) price range.

If only I could get my old account back – I’d be all set for another two years of closet geek-like tendencies. :D

The 6800 is a good choice if you're still AGP?

No, the new mobo is SLi. Thats the trouble - the new system is sat in boxes until I've decided on the new card: the MX is AGP.

Ah well if it's SLi just get the best single SLi card you can. I guess that has to be nvidia cause ATI dont have SLi support.

All you have to do is get one with SLi support and you can bung another one in when money is less tight.

Indeed. May as well go for the SLi 6800 until something really demanding comes along. Cheers anyway, Foo!

Actually ATI does have an SLI option available with some new mobos called "crossfire", but you'd probably want to wait for the 1800xt crossfire edition card if you wanted to go that route. The existing option is the x850xt crossfire edition setup.

You already got your mobo so I guess this doesn't really apply :/ Anyway if anyone else wants to check out the ATI option you can read about this:
