I have yet to see a single post or announcement or comment from anyone at Raven or id about the multiplayer, patches, bugs, fixes, future plans, or anything else

Choose one

1) They're working feverishly on a patch and watching all feedback like hawks, waiting to pleasantly surprise everyone with a patch that fixes all the niggling issues and adds some requested features

2) They're busy tweaking the 360 version of Q4 and aren't paying any attention to the community, and could care less about a few hundred pissed off hardcore multi players

3) They're letting Activision handle all of the customer support, and will get around to issuing the mandated and budgeted one necessary bugfix patch once Activision has answered enough phone calls from Joe and Jane user and recieved enough emails from Joe and Jane user to compile a list of the Most Common Problems Afflicting New Dell Systems And Recent Video Cards, and will then drop support for this as they move on to their next project

or theyre just too busy working on the 360 version and dont have time for a patch, even though they really want it.

people need to take it easy with their "omg its also for [console] so they must not care about the community!!"-routine

From Activision's point of view it's probably "We're happy that you have purchased our product, now shut up and wait for the expansion".

Raven, on the other hand is probably in the situation of "We'd love to fix these issues, but we can't do shit until Activision allocates a budget for releasing a patch, until then we have our hands full finishing the 360 version and conceptualizing the expansion".

Yea, I've been curious about point releases since the beginning on Q4. We know id has released PRs for their games to fix issues, and even add some functionality requested by users.

But id is a small shop that only makes a very limited number of games, and they don't have to answer to others for budget questions, etc the way others do. And they don't have other games to support, and others in the works.

I have wondered since the game came out:

Did Raven know what they were getting into by releasing the next Quake game? Are they ready to sift through a constant stream of opposing stances on the way the game should be, from several different opposing factions in the community? Do they know the difference between the competitive community and the casual, and do they care? Will they really be willing to make tweaks to things like gun damage, chat functionality, HUD settings, enemy colors, etc., and put them in point releases to make the game play the way parts of the community want to?

I know a lot of the people who worked on the game were avid Quake fans, but that doesn't necessarily mean the company will allow them to devote the resources they would like into improving Q4 for the competitive community.

My money is on them fixing the most egregious of bugs, adding any functionality that is heavily requested and not _too_ difficult to implement (in terms of manhours consumed most likely), and possibly playing with the existing cvars/tweakable settings to allow and enable certain user and server admin options or functionality that either aren't possible or are dormant currently.

Beyond that? Pray they release the SDK soon, then let the community fight over which leet competition mod to use.
