q4max and CAL

Well, with competitions and ladders starting to pop up some of you might be looking at CAL. Contrary to clanbase and other ladders, they have decided to use q4max instead of x-battle. Two questions:

1) What ladder(s) are YOU playing on?

2) WTF is up with q4max getting stuck in a loop and just loading and loading and loading over and over whenever I try to connect to a server? Jeez.... :icon33:

I'm a tad disappointed with CAL if they keep some of the decisions they've made.
Q4Max is simply awful. Lotsa bugs. HUD messed up, skins look silly.
Bad news bears.

And for CTF they currently have team damage on.
WTF??
Never has any version of Quake CTF had team damage on for any reputable league.
Let us hope it's a typo.
A copy/paste folly, if you will.

I don't mind playing with teamdamage on. Cuts down the brainless spamming.

Also cuts down on the ability to defend the flag carrier :P team damage is fine in tdm, control is the watchword there. It sucks ass in ctf.

That's not defending, but attacking your own FC.

It just means you can't rocket spam him, but you actually have aim at your enemies to defend him. Hitscan weapons are safer ofc. Being able to boost your FC by a rocket or rail in the back is lame as well. I know Quake isn't about realism, but things like no team dmg are just not skill promoting.

Yes, I’m unimpressed with Q4Max and I think Caleague and others should just go with the default, vanilla mods. I don’t like the models just as much as the next person, but it’s the same for everyone and the mod needs to bring much more to the table than Q4Max does before we all switch to it.

I’m not really in any leagues or ladders now because as far as I know, for Q4CTF, there aren’t any. I’m signed up for Caleague, but I have no idea when it’s supposed to start and my question for it at their site went unanswered. And, team damage on for CTF is ridiculous.

I’ve been toying with the idea of starting my own tournament/league just for fun.

I'm signed up for 1v1 and 4v4 ctf, and the only problem i really have with q4max is the hud (weapon display) bugs.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with q4max if there was viable support for the mod, but there isn't. There's no tech forums to discuss the mod/probs with it. And from what I've heard it's fairly lack-luster anyway. And wow, I'm not competing in CAL ctf but wtf is up with team damage on?!?! Had no idea that was their plan. Wow. just wow...

Yeah, I thought I'd heard something about the ppl from q4 max ganking the name off of a previous mod or something? What exactly is up with that? True/False?

[rant]Ugh, anyway, I'm frustrated with the CAL scene right now. A bunch of noobs are comming over from other games trying to get a piece of the action, which is fine b/c the community needs to grow. But then I hear all of this bitching about how "brightskins are lame" and so on. I keep thinking to myself, DID YOU EVER PLAY Q3 OSP or CPMA? This game isn't about f***ing stealth. If you want that crap go play a Tom Clancy game. And any tourney game I've been in, either me or someone of equal or higher skill always gets called a hacker, and I'm a modest middle-of-the-pack duelist to boot. I swear it's driving me nuts. Someone please point me in the direction of a good NA ladder/community to play with cause I can't stand this anymore. Sorry... had to let that out.[/rant]
