Model/scoreboard issues

Post by kleeks »

Ok, so from a previous thread we know the headless marine is purportedly a known issue, and this same bug messes up the scorboard. - I seem to have an extreme case of this, let me explain ....

In ctf the first map is usually ok, then after the resatart I start to get my models mixed up, first it may be one player only, but it gets progressively worse. Instead of seeing the enemy team model (marine or strogg) it displays the player as having my teams model (complete with icon above head). Then it starts to display some of my team as the enemy - until eventually we've got mixed teams and i haven't a clue who who is. More often than not one of the models is the headless marine. To go with this, i get empty player names, or names of players who have left the server in the scoreboard and on screen. When they talk its ok though.
In DM its less noticeable, but after a few maps the scoreboard is almost blank apart from scores, and i'm sure our firend the headless marine is about.
I'm beginning to suspect it is related to people who joined after the first game (or after a set time) - something is failing to record the nicks/models correctly.

It does not seem to be something i remember having from my first games on q4, although they were all but unplayable and my cfg is heavily edited from then

Is there something that may help cvar wise ? - I've scanned through thoroughly, but can't seem to find anything
new rig is coming tommorrow(flatpack), so re-install is on the cards for the weekend - but i am still curious as to what is going on (google sheds little light)

oh and btw, installed the new pr tongiht, and that made no dfiference (running quake4-linux-1.05 now)

I havent seen this at all and I am pretty sure I have every performance tweak there is. Sounds odd... :icon32:

tbh it is very annoying, but i feel i have just spotted the culprit :icon25:

bit of an oversight really, but it occured to me to try starting quake from the command line instead of through my game browser (I use a browser called xqf). Lo and behold a perfect map without hiccups.

more testing to follow, although i'll have to do that anoher night
