Modchipped PS2's (UK)

Post by brisk »

Where can I get one? I want to get a PS2 to catch up on some of the games i've missed in the past few years (my last console was a PS1), and I want to play import and backup games. I realise modchips are now illegal to sell in the UK, but aside from that, does anyone know any places that still sell them? Or is anyone in here wanting to sell theirs? ;)

Some import game shops to chipping. I think the shop my mate works at (Gametron) does it.

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

mod-chipping a ps2 is pointless.
just get a hard drive and HD Advance
or have someone put the independance exploit on a memcard

the official sony network adapter (that plugs into the expansion port on the back of the playstation... this only works for the older *big* ps2's not the slim ps-two btw)
it has an IDE jack on it for connecting a standard IDE HDD.
as you can probably assume, it is possible to run games off the hard-drive. (goodbye load times)
no mod-chip required.

method one:
buy a program called HD-Advance, it is a legit, bootable, stamped CD, so it will boot in any off-the-shelf ps2; and use that to get things on and off the hard drive

method two:
look on the net for something called "independence exploit"
it is a nifty exploit of the ps2 that allows the memory card to boot custom software.
using any mem-card writing hardware (available on the net various places) you can create a memory card that will run all sorts of programs... including loaders for running game images off the hard disk.

Do some research, its all out there... you can do all sorts of fun stuff with the ps2 and not ever have to remove a screw.

GG Dr W
make sure you do your homework... their are some IDE drives that don't fit on the adapter correctly (pretty much WD*.*)
but there is a list of known good drive models out on the net.
also, i think the max size is like 120G

ps2dev i think is a forum that has TONS of info on this.
i read up on a bunch of it like 6 mo ago because one of my mates has it all working on his ps2.
its pretty sweet, you can even push iso's to the HDD over the network.

I've been reading about it, and its all very interesting stuff. But financially, i'm not so sure the HD method is sound....

I'd need the following:

HDD (Maxtor 6Y120P0) - £50
HDD Enclosure - £20
Network adapter - £20

Add P+P to that shit, and it comes in at about £100.

A friend at uni says he can install modchips onto a PS2, and I think he charges about £40. And there is less messing about... just stick in the games, and go.

Decisions....

This is a WARNING!!!!!1111one in reguards to HD advance/ HD loader / USB Extreme

READ UP ABOUT THESE long before You get into it, persionally i have USB Extreme ( i have a V12 Slim ) and i have only gotten it to work with 2 games and counting.

Now, HD Advanced/Hdloader are WAYY beter then USB Extreme, but they arnt perfect in ANY way.

Alot of the games you will need to toy with them, and some times edit code to get them working correctly at all times.
Now, dont get me wrong, there are tons of sites that allready have these things done and are ready to download/read to get it done, just be for warned, its not as simple as Backup and play.

i would Agree to go with a Modchip, take your time, find the right one and give her, MUCH less hastle in the long run.

Thats my 2cents and i hope it helps you out.

Good luck man :)

are two that i've found, but take your time and check for reviews long before you order from them.

Well, I decided to buy a pre-modded slimline PS2 from http://www.gameworlddirect.co.uk.

I settled on the Matrix Infinity chip, as this seemed to get the most positive feedback for this particular model.

Total price was about £180 inc a 8mb mem card, and next day shipping.
