X-battle mod and drach-fps-mappack.pk4

Woa, it's excellent! rufus, ( ex q3 pro player but I'm sure you all know that by now), has been helping me out with this mod. We played on a server, ( after having downloaded various mappacks), and he told me to set r_lightdetaillevel to 9. That took my fps right up. I also set brightness to 1.5 and my gamma is at 2 anyway.
Fleet was bright for the first time, no dark spots anywhere, it suddenly became a playable map. And brightskins! Apparently there are quite a lot of servers using battle and drachmaps, is that right? I haven't been keeping up with the latest stuff, but that's what he told me. He showed me the various jumps too using the lamps around the map but that's another thing.
I tried the command r_skilllevelbeatrufus 1 but that didn't work. :p
He really is an amazing player btw. If you ever want a real challenge, go search him on irc or Q4 echelon and prepare to, well, die a lot I guess. :icon25:

i haven't played the mp in almost a month but i've read arqon is on the team that is making q4max. i think it's only a matter of time before the alpha-mod is realized.....

seta r_lightdetaillevel to 9

cant seem to find this line in the cfg,
can i enter it manually?
getting steady 60 fps in open areas and in fire fights, couple more wouldnt hurt i guess.

Brightness is @ 1.8
gamma is @ 2

This command only works on some maps, namely my fps mappacks and the remix-maps from teddy/swelt.
so every map with a drach or tdm/tmp in the name has those lighting tweaks, stock maps almost dont used lightdetail.

What's the difference between "drachdm map pack" and "drach q4 map pack"? I have, for example, drachdm1sl and drachq4dm1.

Hmm maybe sl = single light? I like to play with r_lightdetaillevel 4 so i have some lights in hallways, but i increase it when my FPS are not high enough.

All maps with sl in the name are singlelight maps i done for testing before i had the idea to modify the lightdetaillevels.
they are old and only have ambientlight so dont worry to use lightdetaillevel command because it doesnt work there.
the old maps should be taken from the server and be replaced by either my fps mappack or the tmp maps as soon as they release their 2nd mappack.

Ok now these are the mappacks in which the r_lightdetaillevel command works :

- drach-fps-mappack.pk4 (unchanged DM maps)
- fps-ctf-mappack.pk4 (modified CTF maps )
- map_q4tdmpack01-beta.pk4 (modified for tdm,old version)
- map_tmp01.pk4 (final version of the tdm maps)

lol I know, it does sound like I'm being clever and just name dropping. But yea, he is amazing. I challenge anyone from q3w to get one frag on him if they meet him on a server. It's almost impossible. The only player who could is azer. Then again, they're both 'pro' players. Unless there's other pro players lurking here, which there probably are. It's amazing how high skill level can get in fps games.

Yeah it's the same one Rico. Funnily enough my bro popped down last weekend and after showing him the map I was working on (and him suggesting several changes which is why it's not seen the light of day yet :/) we got to talking about some of the old names coming out of the woodwork for q4.

Anyway, conversation evolved and my bro was struggling to think of the name of one of the old bYc HPW's (when they were enforced) so I grabbed a couple of demos from Savage archives and who should pop up in the first one but Rufus, quad whoring. Manta was one of their HPW's in that game, can't remember t'other but we never did find this mystery players name :/

Was great seeing some of the old players in action again. Che sitting in defence because he didn't like attacking on this one map :D Also seen b0se knocking around on the odd q4 server.

azer has some kind of sick capability to adjust himself to a game. i respect that :)
