Combining Two +5V's

Post by AmIdYfReAk »

Anyone know a Feasible/cheap way to combine two +5V DC Lines to create a +10V DC charge?

I am looking at connecting the power off of two USB ports to get a little more juice.

Tie the two 5v positives together , then tie the two 5v negatives together. Paralleling the two voltage sorces together will give you 10 volts.

Just don't touch the positive to the negative.

yea, that is the obvious answer, BUT! there will be huge resistance of on the +5's and i fear that i will blow out the +5 rails on the PS2.

btw, two 5V's would come out to be ~7V's with all of the resistance....

duuuude, it works! thats why!.

The SP2 Slim ( or called PStwo ) has a heating issue, And i want this thing to last ( Gt4 bebeeee!!! ) so i've been trying to cook up a cooling silution to get the job done, Thus far.. all i can come up with is Two usb cables, 486dx2 HSF, paper, Electrical tape... the rest you can just guess.

You would be risking less to use the input from the main power. Since the transformer on the PStwo is on the cord and not in the unit, you should be able to take power off from the point where the cord enters the PStwo.

It's a standard plug, too... you can get 1 male and one female component for that power lead, and just splice straight in.

You might have to deal with voltage drops, but there's likely more regulation built into the power input than there are to the USB sockets, so it'll be safer?

Last summer I cooled my PSOne (PSX) with one of those small standard desk fans, it couldn't be any more than a foot long... and it did a fabulous job. After 3hrs of Final Fantasy Tactics that thing was warm as fuck... but the fan kept it cool all the way through, the bottom was cool to the touch and everything and no skipping. :)

Hehe no sir, I'm not familiar with riggin electronics like some of you guys are. What I simply states was that it was a desk standing fan and that's how I kept it. So I turned it on/off with a switch whenever I needed to. But I tell ya, with the dead of summer temps. and the PSOne heating good enough to fry an egg the fan did the job well.
