Right-click desktop -> Properties -> Advanced -> Find your card's 'Overlay' settings.

Check they're set default.

OK. We could look to the codecs as well. Are al lthe videos using the same codec or does it happen across DivX files, quicktime, realmedia, DVDs, the whole lot?

so far i have tried VLC, MPC, DivX, WMP, i have attempted to play DVD's in several programs. So far, the only thing that has worked was the trailer for ET:QW on the official site :icon26:

I'm not asking which programs you're using, but which videos. Most of the video players use the same system codecs as each other. Hence if the video looks messed up in several players, codecs are likely to be at the root of the problem.

Try a newer version of that codec pack, from here: Twinkle of the Stars, Little Stars, Shining Stars

what i can't understand is that the DVD's i am attempting to play used to work in WMP, DivX etc, so i figure it must be a problem/setting with my video card.

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

Yeah, it should be driver related (video overlay stuff). With BSPlayer (no pun intended, it's a good prog) you can adjust brightness/contrast quite easily.

Strange, i've got a fx5200 and dvd playback is fine on the latest drivers (81ish)

I've seen similar video complaints when the 77.x drivers released
