is this right or am i missing something? so i now have to install both .net and their buggy CCC? is it still as sluggish as previous versions?

for the 5.12's i just downloaded the drivers and kept the control panel installed from a previous version but i don't have as many options as i used to. bullox

AFAIK, .net has been part of windows update for.... a while.

of course you can just download the display driver and nothing else if you scroll down into the low bandwidth area. It will show a few columns and just DL the display driver. It will give you the basics but I dont know if it will let you use some of the cards other features like vivo and what not.

yeah that's what i meant when i said i did that with the previous version and left control panel installed and just updated vid drivers; some options weren't available.

so i'm trying ccc...doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as the last version i tried, which may have been just their first or second release of it. we'll see.

Does it still use a large amount of memory then "give it back when needed?".

eh maybe. couple more processes as well but i ended up setting my cpu clock to default (266 bus) for the hell of it and did a timedemo in q3 and it was only 5fps slower than oc'd (280 bus)....meaning i don't think there's much performance loss if any.

so yes :p

download drivers only then use ati tray tools.

great 3rd party cp.

btw been using ccc with the 5.13 cats and kinda like it. i just have to right click the ati logo in the systray and can change everything from there.

q3 started stuttering like when pb updates. never had that problem till i installed ccc. removed it and stuttering is gone.

Or you could use Omega's drivers of course, which come with the ATi Tray tools. Imho Omega's are still the best drivers for ATi cards.

CCC sucks unless you need to hook your computer to an HDTV.

alot of people are sticking to the 5.11 drivers cuz of that control panel issue.

I went nVidia on my last upgrade and don't regret it at all. The drivers are far better and don't require any resident apps to be running like CCC.

Same. So much easier to deal with.

I'm using the omega drivers and they are pretty nice, no ccc included.

Yep, that comes with omega also. It sucks though that it takes a bit long for the guy to update the drivers, when 6.0 hits it will be prolly a few weeks before the omegas are released. :(

But sometimes he does relese them fast, he did skip 5.13, which means he had a lot more time to prepare for 6.0 Hopefully they will be out the same week as the official offering.
