PC gamepad recommendations?

I just picked up Winning Eleven 8. It kicks ass but my gamepad won't let me travel south. Bit hard to play footy that way.

Should I get a ps2 controller with a usb dealie or is there a good made for pc gamepad out there?

Ps2? Uck, grab an xbox pad and use that. Either that or a proper PC pad.

Shut up you stupid fanboy. In case you have failed to notice, the majority of PC cntrollers are modeled after PS1/PS2 controllers, so obviously something is right.

Well I would think that one should buy a controller based on what they like. PS2 controllers are widely used as the PS2 is a popular console. I personally perfer the original X-Box controller but that is my preference. Of course on a PC I use keyboard and mouse, much easier to shoot with.

If you already have a PS2 or XBOX controller than get a usb adapter for it.
If your running XP it should be as simple as plug and play.

naw I don't have a console... I stick to pc games.

Okay I just picked up the saitek p880 dual analog gamepad. I'll let y'all know how it is.

when you go out just grip the pads and pick the one which feels the most comfy

i would stick to known names tho and away from cheap plastic :]

My playstation pad and USB converter have served me well so far.

DEFINITELY go for one of the console pads, the official ones. They're so much more solid than any other pad I've known.]

Microsoft and Logitech pads not recommended. Logitech do good Mice and steering wheels, but that's about it for me.

If you've got the money (this is what I plan on doing in the future), you can get adapters for several of the old console controllers (at least back to the 16 bit era) so you can use whichever you want for your emulation fun.

Otherwise, yeah, I use a PS2 controller with an adapter. Works pretty well, honestly. With the right drivers installed, you can even get the force feedback to work.

The ps2 pad wins hardcore. Any of the pc pads modelled after it usually suck because the directional pad is often made very poorly so that when you're pressing UP it usually goes like UPLEFT or UPRIGHT. Even my logitech pads do this. It makes them worthless if you're trying to play a racing game and want to use the directional pad.

My theory as to why this happens is either that they always have all of the directional pad exposed, rather than just the parts that are the arrows on the ps2 pad, or they're just fucking cheapskates and don't bother to make it solid.

I heard those wireless ones weren't good because you have to plug your headset into the xbox itself. But I'm think I'll get one for my PC though. :icon14:

the smart joy usb converter cost me $10 and is actually one of the only "plug and play" devices i've ever seen.
xp picks it up as soon as its pluged in... full analog support and not one issue for the year and a half i've had it.
matter of fact i'm so happy with it i'm planning on getting a second one, then attaching them to a bay plate so i can have two hard-modded ps2 ports on my pc.

The online logitech reviews I read, were not positive. I swear by their mice though.

This is what I got...

It's comfortable, responsive and has a glowing blue light. If it holds up, I'll be a happy boy.
