What do you think about what’s going on in Dubai and it’s surrounding?
I mean, a skiing resort in the middle of the desert and some hundreds islands representing every countries up for grab, the highest skyscraper in the world… No taxes.
Would you move there?
One of their prolific architects is from here, yes, a Quebecer.

I used to live near Dubai for many years when I was a kid. A couple years back I went to see it - the place has no soul imo.
It is a fascinating phenomenon though - and no doubt will function as a testing ground for the latest in extravagent luxury technologies.
For anyone that's seen the episode "Trash" in firefly - there's a shot of these luxury accomodations floating hundreds of metres above the ocean. I can totally see Dubai being the first place to implement this sort of thing.

What I am thinking about is that, if they are richer than the USA, shouldn’t we be worried about their superpower$? They won’t just fanfares around, playing who has the biggest skyscrapers and the like, it is may be just a diversion and soon they will say …We have better technologies and better weapons than yours, but it might be far too late.

yea it's pretty depressing. Dubai's pretty much built on slave labour - the very idea of a dubai national working in construction is beyond their imagination.Grudge wrote:European engineers are constructing their cities, and asian labor is doing the menial labor. They bring nothing themselves, except their oil money, hence they will never achieve anything by themselves.
