Keyboards that don't suck

Post by GODLIKE »

Okay, I've been playing Q4 on my current (Microsoft ergo cheapie) keyboard for a while.. and I'm noticing, just like in the Q2 days.. not all keyboards are created equal.

Feel is important.. but what is holding me back is that my keyboard only allows about three keys to "register" when pressed together. Maybe two.

Now that we have crouch sliding, and I like to change weapons with the keyboard, not mouse.. I've gotta pick up a keyboard that registers everything I'm pressing, not just the first two keys. ..

Any recommendations (Ideally, without logitech's asstastic driver sets) ?

I use the above keyboard, and can vouch for not having had any problems with it - assume the whole cmotion range are similar.
nowhere could i find how many keys can be recognised at once, although pressing and holding along the qwerty line gives me qwer - so can i assume its 4 ?

its not a small keyboard, although the keys have a good feel, bounce nicely and it seems robust.

I still zoom with mouse 2, although I don't use it so much, these days..

The cherry keyboard is pretty cool, although I wouldn't be getting the penguin one, clearly..

I like Cherry a lot too, their no-nonsense products especially. The G80-3000 is a good one that will last _very_ long. I've been using my G81-3000 for 5 years without any noticable wear. :) Sadly it recognizes as little as 3 simultaneous keypresses in some places, but that doesn't really bother me often, except when strafejumping in Q3 Defrag.

Are you intending to get the wireless one?

Yeah.. If I was replacing my TV/DVD setup with a windows media PC, maybe.. but for my gaming box, I really don't need any wireless crap to futz with. It's just something else to troubleshoot, and my desk is going to have cables on it anyway. :p

GODLIKE, I had a similar problem, PS/2 only keyboards often outperform USB/PS2 converter keyboards.

The discussion in that thread isn't very interesting. My keyboard allows up to 8 keys to be pressed simultaneously too, but not 8 keys that are adjacent to eachother. So that's a rather useless number to know. If you use RDFG for movement (like me), you have to be able to press R together with D or G and E/T/H/S/etc. When i hold R and G or D, pressing E (my MG bind) doesn't do anything. I really don't want to change the layout of my binds so i'd like to have a keyboard that does allow for those keys to be pressed simultaneously.
