great but if I've learned anything , nature will most proly come out with something more sinister than HIV, I dunno about you but I really think we're fucking up the balance and we'll get fucked in the end

Actually, HIV meds are commonly sold with Viagra and it has to be supplied if the patient asks for it and as long as the insurance/copay cover it.

tnf is right: the big problem with HIV and influenza is that they mutate very quickly. This drug might work now, but more than likely a resistant strain will crop up.

That said, the article didn't say much about how the drug works (I can't be bothered to read the science journal this morning...maybe later). It says it mimics the body's own defense, but the body protection against viruses relies on cells being infected to begin with. So it doesn't make sense to me.

Those who's far related to the survivors of the black plague (name? owned EU in the 14th century) is said to be immune to AIDS, due to something funky in their DNA or whatever. Anyways, I'm gonna go get tested for that somtime.
