Half life 2 is..

Post by DRuM »

..really pretty amazing. Took me long enough to finally unwrap it and install it. It wasn't really living up to it's hype for me at the start of the game, although I was definitely impressed by the facial expressions. Now that I'm at the water canal levels where I'm speeding around in the boat, getting chased by a copter dropping bombs, I'm really impressed. Incredibly impressive graphics and the sound of the explosions is almost gut wrenching. The sheer size of the map though, you really do get the impression you're riding in that boat for miles and the water looks fantastic. The boat physics are excellent and a lot of fun. Real Hollywood stuff.

*..enough talk..goes back to the game..*

that was the part that immersed me too. when the chopper went over my head, its baled blowing away oilbarrels et al. great

and much later on i checked out some abanonded house next to the freeway and when i entered the second floor i looked out the window and saw combine coming towards the house. after a brisk fight with me using the window as a machinegun nest i went outside and the entire side of the house was covered in bulletholes. amazing none of those hit me :olo:

Make sure you download and play Garry's Mod for a bit as well once you're done with singleplayer. It's very entertaining.

The GM Wiki has some prefab objects you can try to get working. I'm still quite proud of my working helicopter, made from, like, ladders and duct tape and bubble gum. Or something.

I just realised that Garry's Mod should have been called 'McGuyver'.

Also get SMod for awsome kung fu melee bullet time fun loaded with a ton of new weponas and cool particle and debris effects (aswell as gibbing).

Let's just hope it doesn't suck as much as Star Wars Episode 1.

If you have a fast PC, or at least 6600/6800LE, try this while you play: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/Fak ... Pack;55302

And install this to get the surroundings also: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/Fak ... ddon;56706

Not sure if the last one works with the skin pack alone, maybe you need the entire mod, but it should work.

It's big, yes, but it looks a lot better :)

That's pretty neat netrex. Would you recommend downloading and using that the first time you play through the SP game?

I still haven't bought HL2 even though I've been meaning to for a while. I can't believe I've got this badass machine and still never played HL2 on it. :smirk:

it's a shame few of the SP mods have been memorable

eclipse was pretty but frustrating. minerva was well-constructed and professional looking but gameplay was fairly pedestrian. ravenholm, day hard and the island all munch on cumburgers

Might check out some of those mods, thanks.
I'm in the middle of ravensholm now. Amazing how the games atmosphere changed so drastically. One minute you're driving across huge lakes shooting down tanks planes and soldiers, and the next, it's like resident evil.

Can't remember if it was reefsurfer, memphis or someone else, but a while ago, someone on here posted a screenshot and said that moment particularly scared him. Was that in ravensholm?
