Strange problem with Quake3

Post by phlax »

the problem is hard to explain, basically when im playing off-line or on-line, it's like the computer starts to diskswap, but its not. everything else keeps moving fluidly around me by my mouse movements get jerky, and sometimes spin around wildly, i can record a demo if someone thinks they can figure this out =/

ive tried spyware and virus sweeping, reinstalling game, etc

Reboot and try again. If it happens after 5 mins of playing or something, it means that you don't have enough ram. You'll need to check your services in WinXP (I assume that's what you're running) and disable some to free up ram.

I've had the same thing when I had 256mb. I played around with the services and freed up some ram, so it was fine, I could play for at least 3 hours before the jerkiness returned.

256 in XP will work in theory but gives terrible performance. You want at least another 128, preferably another 256, before you'll start to see the system running smoothly.

Till then try tweaking your settings for better performance. :icon14:
