What are your system specs, including graphics card model and driver version?

I think that either the card or driver does not support OpenGL.

Not sure what kind of graphics card I have but I know this:

Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Intel Pentium 3 Processor, 498 MHz, 192 MB of RAM

If you tell me how to find out the stuff your asking for, then I'll do it but I seriously don't know how lol. I know my computer sucks though so I wouldn't be surprised either if that was the problem

Depending on the graphics card, your system 'should' run it.

Go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager, display adapter. It should tell you there. Like so:

Not absolutely sure about that card, but it's a pretty low end card. If it does run it, it will be barely. Have you tried updating your video driver?

Woah that's ancient...

I think for older intergrated cards like that, you need one of those 'gl setup' apps installed first. I remember doing this way back but I don't remember the full name of the app you need.

It might run, but mind you it will run pretty poorly.

I had the same exact card on my old p2 233mhz, 32mb ram. I remember loading up the crash map, and standing there for 5 minutes while waching the screen being drawn with a pen and paper (slide show) ;)

I dunno, you have a p3 which is a lot better. Do you know how fast the cpu is? A decent video card to get q3 running would set you back less than $50. It wouldn't run most newer games very nice though.

Also, wasn't there some kinda solution to that 'running in restricted demo mode' message? A lot of people here used to get that and I remember there where a few replies with the solution. Why is the search path different on the second line? Wouldn't make any difference I reckon, but shouldn't they both be the same (the slash I mean).

Nope, didn't work. Infact I had to restart my computer with "Most recent configurations that worked" or something like that, just to start my comp

I tried Q3 on a P2 400 with that chip, ATi 3D Rage Pro. It worked, but only kind of smooth with the detail turned way down. It should be possible with your system.

You have to be quite precise with the Rage series of cards, see this for a reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATI_Rage
Be sure you have the exact driver for the card. If you can pop the side off your PC case, you should be able to see the rage's model number quite clearly. I've got a couple here spare and they all have clear model markings on them.

You can get Q3 working on a Rage Pro 3D (8Mb), but it had a number of graphics errors and I had to use my knowledge of the game to tweak it down to a very, very ugly setting.

Rage Pro cards work with Q3, there are a few hacks in the source to get them to work with it.

I would second the suggestion to get a new video card. A newer low end card would cost you under $50, but give a HUGH performance increase. If your time is worth anything, you'd waste more time/money than that trying to get Q3 running on your current card.

Not sure, but i think its a OPENGL problem, on those old card, sometime they don't have a OPENGL driver include, you have to install driver for OPENGL separately...
