Sometimes when I reboot my soundcard won't be recognised as being in my system, so I powerdown, stick it in a different slot and XP finds it again. That has happened 3 times. Same thing just happened this morning with my Ethernet card for my modem, and was fixed with the same procedure.
XP has been playing up a bit lately, it's been ages since I reinstalled. Please tell me it's an XP problem and not a motherboard issue.
System not recognising PCI cards?
could be a setting in your systems bios.
i recall it's something like
Let OS or WINDOWS manage resources
Yes or No
or
PNP OS Installed: Set it to Yes to to allow your Plug & play compatible operating system, e.g. Windows 98, to manage resources. Setting it to No will let the BIOS handle this.
