I've always really loved the mx310. My brother has an mx500 and its the only mouse I'd say feels better.

I don't play enough to care for DPI settings etc. I only care for comfort, I vote Logitech.

The mx510 is doing well for both myself and my housemate, along with a steelpad s&s pad for it.

The only downside of going logitech is needing to use the mouseware application to get the most out of the mouse - without it the optical sensor operates at half the resolution it's capable of.

But I pick logi mice over MS mice every time - even the high-end MS mice feel very cheaply constructed to me. Hollow, with plastic that doesn't stand up to sweaty hands too well without absorbing a load of grease and grime. Not pretty.

Between those 2, I'd choose the Logitech G5. The Razor uses what I would consider old tech which is Infra-Red. The Logitech G5 uses Laser.

I love my G5 although that Razor DOES look pretty nice.

Razer Diamondback and Razer Pro 1.6 (white version of the DB). Laser mice are too quirky for me. They react differently to different mouse pads, don't work at all on some and they keep tracking when you lift the mouse to reposition it (not to mention the bitching with the firmwares). The Diamondback / Pro 1.6 have no issues at all with any pad. Perfect tracking, comfortable, sentitive and reliable big mouse buttons (unlike Logitech MX mice), sturdy mousewheel. The only advantage of the MX510 could be the bigger number of buttons, which could be usable in some games (not Quake imho).

I use Razer Copperhead (with Razer Mantis pad). It's cool, but I can't say anything more detailed since it's my first optical mouse. It's definitely better than any ball mouse.

I wanna get the G5, but it's 60-70 dollars. Is it worth it?

I have several mice... Razer Diamondback, an older Intellimouse Explorer, MX700, MX1000, and a MX518.

I never could get used to the button layout on the Razer, the MX700 was / is awesome, my wife uses it still, the Intellimouse was a good mouse, but I wore the pads off the bottom, the MX1000 is great for office apps, and very configurable, like the mouse but I find it to be too heavy for gaming, the MX518 I use now, is a killer mouse. Really like it.

I won't go back to wireless, unless they can make them much lighter. The mx518 is featherlight, great mouse. Wish it had a little different button layout. The sensitivity switch on the fly is pretty cool. I highly recommend the 518....and it's pretty cheap too.

@jagou: it took me about two weeks to get used to the Diamondback. I used an MX500 before, played quite bad with my Diamondback after that. Don't wanna go back to a Logitech ever now. :) I don't use the sidebuttons on my Diamondback (only for on the fly sens changing sometimes).

I was into Farcry when I got the Diamondback (won in a contest) gave it a good solid try, at least a week before I gave up. My problem was, I kept hitting the side buttons unintentionally. I needed or wanted the extra buttons in the game, for throwing grenades, activating binocs, etc... but I'd hit a side button by accident while playing and get overly frustrated with it. Have to say though, it was a dead on accurate and smoooooth mouse, no doubt about it. If the layout wasn't so odd, I'd prolly' use the thing.

Went back to the MX700, which I always liked, I gave it to my wife when I got the MX1000 for Christmas. I like the MX1000 ok, don't really have any glaring issues with it aside from the weight, however my performance in Quake 4 is highly diminished when I switch back to it. Can't explain why really. I'm not sure of the cause.

The MX1000 is still plugged into my machine, sitting in the cradle next to the monitor....lol, I'm so lazy sometimes.

I might give it another quick test run tonight in Q4 before I go ahead and unplug it.

Being wireless, it'll be a good mouse for my server box.

The Diamondback didn't go to waste btw, my kid uses it.

You have your thumb over the sidebuttons? I have it almost at the very tip of the rubber siderails (front of the mouse). Perhaps you're resting the palm of your hand on the mouse, which is a bit awkward with the DB.

Thumb would hit the left button and pinky would hit the right button....I have big hands.

I probably, with enough time, could get used to the Razer, but I'm satisfied with the MX518. It's been really nice so far.

I use the MX510. It's been great, even better than the microsoft V 3.0 I used to have. I think the thumb recess in logitech mice makes a big difference regarding comfort.
