...I have a final in less than an hour for my Astronomy lab.
Problem is, that in Las Vegas, Astronomy is a joke. There's so much lightly pollution we can essentially see two stars - Sirius and Betelguese, in addition to the moon.
Therefore, along with everyone else in the lab, I've essentially learned nothing. We are always let out hours early (supposed to be a 3 hour lab...usually barely lasts an hour) because we can't see shit in the sky and the professor would just say we'd try again next week, etc...now today is the final and we never got around to doing shit.
Time to dig through my astrononmy book for the next 45 mins and try to teach myself a semester's worth of lab.
Fuck incompetent teachers. We never finished one lab.
Astronomy lab final...

And before the posts of "you should have studied earlier..." there's not much I can do. I'm doing well in Astronomy class - that's all memorization of terms and concepts...which is pretty easy.
The astronomy lab is a completely different class. It's all about application of the concepts I learn in the astronomy class and understand why things are the way they are. There's not much I can do to help myself outside of the lab as I don't own a telescope or have any of the computer programs that we use in the lab to emulate one.
We're supposed to have 3 hours labs once a week where I would learn these things with the equipment provided from the lab (telescope, etc), but he always ended the labs after 45 mins - 1 hour where he would write the same things down as was taught in the astronomy class earlier - things everyone knew. By the time we were supposed to go the roof and use the telescopes, he would say we'd just do it next week - he did that for a semester we never did.
I don't know how to use those telescopes for shit now...and I'm going to have to pull something out of my ass tonight and learn how to use it right off the bat to pass the lab.

I'm a political science major, but I need one science with a lab as a requirement. Math isn't by strong point, so I stay away from chemistry, physics, etc. I figured astronomy would be easier.ForM wrote:Pro tip, you dont take an astronomy class in places that are over lit.
You shouldnt have even taken the class there.
A real teacher would have led ya out to the desert, say 30 miles or so.
Sure it would hamper some, but not like in the friggin city.
I got really lucky tonight on my final though. He called up people one at a time out of the lab and took you up on the roof to a telescope. Once there, he would tell you a random star (different for just about everyone) to find and as you're finding it just stand there watching you and ask you random astronomy questions.
I got extremely lucky cause the star he assigned me Polaris - the fucking north star. Easy to find, but I was kind of nervous and coupled with the fact I've never used a telescope, I made a few mistakes off the get-go...recovered late and ended up getting a 90%.
Edit: Also, this is entry level astronomy - I'm only doing it to fill a requirement. From what I understand, entry level is the only class that goes on the roof where we can't see shit. All the higher classes climb on a bus and go out in the desert.
