LCD Monitors

What are good LCD monitors these days. I am looking for 19 or 20 inch. I was looking at a ViewSonic 19" but it got a so-so review from cnet. So I was wondering what a good LCD is. The use will be for mainly text based things like internet, email, writing letters etc. The price needs to be around $400, the less the better. The computer it would be used on would have both analog and DVI. So what are your guys suggestions for companies and or models?

If you're not gaming or watching movies, just get the biggest thing you can within your budget, with DVI, and from a mainstream supplier like Dell/Samsuny/Panasonic.

The more specific specs like response time and black levels aren't a big deal if you're not doing movies or games

Are ViewSonic or NEC displays any good still? Seeing as those are sold on newegg. There is a 17" ViewSonic at the office that is pretty good.

i like NEC's, but i have one here that is broken and they will not sell there parts.

i would also say to stick with the named brands as well, go to tomshardware and he has a MASSIVE roundup of TFT's that will help you out.

And btw, DVI is KEY on LCD's, i ran my Dell 2405FPW on a computer though VGA and the diffrence is night and day, and i was only doing windows stuff..

i have two BenQ's, my mate has three and another mate has one. They work well, haven't seen a dead pixel yet and overall get the thumbs up from me.

I got my 17" Emprex for $177 at Fry's day-after-Christmas Sale.

Luckily it's a very nice LCD so if you see Emprex for cheap, ++!

I just got a nice 20" NEC LCD monitor for my boss. Haven't tried gaming on it yet, but it's good for photoshop. We do high end digital printing.

Good to read considering ive just ordered a 19" BenQ for myself

Also, whenever you're shopping for a TFT research the companies dead pixel policy, some can vary quite a lot.

all the advice above is good aswell, without researching i probably would of got a VGA tft... thankfully ive ordered a DVI.
