Placebo Effect (wvwq4dm1) Final

Post by wviperw »

Placebo Effect is a map that was first intended for CPMA, but by a series of unfortunate events (read: real life), got pushed off until now. The map is (hopefully) unlike any other Q4 map you've played so far and tends to inherit its fast-paced, action-packed traits more from aerowalk and cpm1a than from Lost Fleet or Galang. Not only that, but it now comes in a sexy blue color theme for your dueling pleasure!

Crashes the hell out of my linux system, Q41.2 crashes hard requiring reset.
Q41.0.4 crashes to console with,
ERROR: Lexer: offset: 0 'invalid token 'generateAllFaces' '
:tear:

All other maps work fine :icon9:

jagwah: That's odd... I've never seen that error before. If you happen to have any old versions of Placebo Effect in your q4base folder make sure to remove those. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. :(

Linux
No, there isn't any other versions there.

Windows
It works fine on my windows machine, although there are some strange things when loading, it like flashes back to the desktop, and you get that little console window up in the left hand corner, it then continues to load, then flashes up a little window "logging on to authorisation server" then it continues to load, no other maps do this whether custom or retail, it works fine however. There is also a whole heap of error warning messages in the console after the map has loaded, non pre cached modells and other stuff. Only other problem is that bots don't like it very much :tear: maybe not the maps fault as much as the early state of Quake4 bots.

Re bots, it may be because the map hasnt been clipped in a suitable way for bots. The techniques that applied to Q3 mapping still apply to Q4, even though it doesnt ship with bots.

I'm pretty sure I clipped (using the generic 'clip' which applies to both players and monsters) the entire level pretty well. I know the AAS tends to have problems with patches (not to mention Q4 in general) so I made sure to clip all my pipes and stuff. The level *should* do well with bots, although I haven't tested it since an early version of the level so maybe somewhere along the way it got screwed up.

Great map! Nice flow and vertical layout.
I would change one thing, but I won't tell you what unless you are going to re-release it or make a remix version :p

P.S. I guess the bot file was compiled with newer version of "Q4" and this is the reason of those problems. Aas32 files are not backward compatible :(

The AAS file was compiled in Q4 1.2 which is what players should be playing.

Ahhh, not going to tell me huh? :)

Congrats on getting AMCS in the mappool too.

The best way to avoid this problems is not including bot files in the packs. This new bot, oak, uses non-standard aas anyway.

Only if you really want to hear/read it :P I know how irritating it can be when you hear suggestions after releasing the final version. And you'll probably hear a lot of those because the map will be more and more popular. Or actually it is more probable that you won't hear them, because it's damn fine map :)

Thanks. But honestly, I was more happy that your and xfoo's map get into this than because of my third map there. It's my third, it's not so exciting anymore ;) And at least I won't be alone in this shit ;) And maybe this news will encourage more mappers to make levels for "Q4" (thought it seems to me like no one makes anything for "Q3" too :().
And hopefully CPL will include new maps in CPL Summer.

Oops. Thanks for a hint.

edit: I'm drunk :icon32:

Dude.. I just wanted to give you some props. This is an awesome map. It reminds me a lot of back when we battled on Toaky Towers in Q2 (without the water of course). The dark theme with the blue highlights is awesome. Great map! I've already persuaded the WoD admins to place it on their servers so it will be getting some grapple love.
