samurize w/motherboard monitor crashing

Post by prince1000 »

i reformatted yesterday and upgraded both my versions of samurize and MBM5 but now, no matter which version of each program i use, the loading of mbm5 thru any samurize cfg causes samurize to crash. the only difference is that i'm now using SP2 instead of SP1a, which may change as it seems to be highly unstable on my machine.

everything driver wise is current. of course, both mbm5 and samurize sites are down so i can't check their respective forums...

edit: xp2400 on GA 7vrxp rev 2

Could be a byproduct of SP2's increased security. Is there anything relevant in your event logs?

Faulting application client.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting mode unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00e111e0.

there was something about AddMultiPort in mbmio.dll error when trying to initialize mbm a couple times, but most of the time it's a fatal exception dialog box.

Sounds like you have one of the rare hardware combinations which doesn't get along well with the SP2 upgrade. The next time you reinstall try installing from a slipstreamed SP2 CD. Most of the time if you install from SP2 source the issues will go away.

Interesting. Can't say I've run into a system that has still been unstable after that. What are the hardware specs?

i built this about 3 years ago and it's never been unstable. all thats changed is mabye a hdd or vid card:

xp 2400 @ stock clocks
1280MB pc 2100 ddr
ga 7vrxp rev2, latest bios
lg dvdrom
lg cdr/rw
sb live! 5.1
onboard lan (realtek rtl 8139/810x ethernet)
ATI 9600 XT
samsung syncmaster 955 DF
key tronic standard ps/2 keyboard
logitech MX 510
2 80GB special edition western digital 7200rpm 8mb cache IDE drives - i recently started using the second one again as it makes a lot of noise but i need the hdd space. this is the only hardware 'upgrade' before installing xp w/sp2.

windows is fully updated and so are all my drivers. i can live without being to read cpu temps as they haven't changed in the 3 years i've had the board/cpu but the whole sytem seems to be getting less and less stable and it's only been 1 full day since formatting

Have you tried running WD's drive diagnostics? Memtest? I've run into unstable systems with similar symptoms where either the HDD or memory was the culprit.

i think i sorted it...somewhat.

reinstalled w/sp2 slipstreamed again but didn't update thru windows update. i thought the keyboard issue was just since formatting but i remember it happening after i had done an update thru windows update a few weeks ago while still on sp1a. since i reinstalled the OS and updated drivers while rebooting about 10 times within the last couple hours i've not had a problem with the keyboard, which is a good sign. it happened constantly and right away the last time.

as far as samurize/mbm5, there's a conflict somewhere with those 2 programs. i got it to work but can't have the cfg editor open while an instance w/same cfg is running or it crashes. at least that's what seems to be happeneing thus far. we'll see.

SP2 is a Good Thing. Anyone who doesn't switch is a fool.

i went back to sp1a for now. q3 ran like absolute shit for some reason on sp2, though i got better timedemos on it than sp1a, if by only a few frames. i disabled all of the added security services and what not but it still ran like crap. the whole samurize crashing issue has nothing to do with either service pak i've discovered, it's mbm needing to be patched and mbmstarter.dll updated in samurize dir...
