Glitchy sound

Post by Transient »

I've been trying to watch a DVD on my computer, but the sound is glitchy. It will crackle and stutter, along with the video to a smaller degree when the DVD player is playing. Also, if I'm ripping a CD or accessing the CD/DVD player in any way, any audio on my computer will glitch (i.e. Winamp or Windows sounds).

I have no idea what's causing the problem. I already opened the case to check the connections, but damned if I can find an audio wire coming out of the DVD player and going into the motherboard. Just a power cable and an IDE cable.

It wasn't always like this. The only thing I can think of that I did that may have something to do with it is a week or so ago, I had a massive ripping session where I spent about 3 hours ripping all my CDs to my hard drive.

Any ideas? I really want to watch this fucking movie! :icon33:

Nobody uses the audio cables from optical drives anymore. I would think the reason the audio skips while you are ripping is due to system resources, not enough RAM most likely, a dual core or hyperthreaded processor would help with that a good deal I would think.

A GB of RAM isn't enough anymore? :(

BTW, I'm about to look for drivers for my sound card.

edit: oh, and it is a dual core processor (3GHz).

Well I don't think that system would have any problem with what you are talking about. Good idea about the drivers, keep us posted.

Sweet Jesus, it worked!

First I installed the wrong drivers, which made the sound card stop working entirely. Then I tried to roll them back and it still didn't work. Fortunately, I found the correct drivers and it worked like a charm! :D

I am my hero.
